On the edge of chaos

I decided to try to capture riding at Sycamore in a different way. I have a GoPro with a wrist mount but that doesn't do well when riding nor do I. Nothing was really steady until I zip-tied the GoPro to the seat rails - looking back. The videos look much steadier than anything else I've tried, even with other cameras. When the camera is rigidly attached to the frame a lot of bobble disappears.
The disadvantage is that the GoPro picks up a lot of frame rumble. Normally when I freewheel the buzz is loud enough to make hikers turn around. The GoPro just picked up a whisper even though it was close to the hub. You'll also miss the sound of mustard playing tunes on my spokes. Oh well some day I'll dub sound or music, but on with the show. The mount ![]() The descent of Sycamore. Every ride that starts from the North must descend the paved section affectionately known as the Black B***h. It's easy to go down but returning to the start is another matter. Just a steady unrelenting grade exposed to the sun. Not a big deal unless you've already tired from riding. (all pics below are video links) ![]() Wood Canyon - always a fun run. Skidded to avoid a coyote pup wandering on the trail. I hope he wasn't an orphan. ![]() Next some singletrack. Ranch Center connector through Sin Nombre. (video still processing) ![]() Continuing on to Two Foxes ST ![]() then Sage singletrack ![]() finally a water crossing, a hop across PCH, then a view of the ocean. ![]() After the beach the short way back to the start is 9 miles of fireroad and the d*** climb. Hmmm, looks strangely familiar, like really recent. Is that standard on a Grade O or 1 build Ventana Patrone?
Only thing missing is the heat and the mirage effect from today, eh? Super rare to catch a glimpse of Two STR type Cougars in the campground. ![]()
