Default Where in Santa Barbara....

The boss has sentenced me to a week of hard labor in Lompoc next week, so I thought about packing the old el ray and hitting the trails if I get some spare time. I know you guys know where are the sweet spots are, so let hear it, where at the best trails between Santa Barbara and Santa Maria?

I'm kind of a lame rider. I was looking mostly for XC; bunny trails to intermediate single track. No black diamonds.

Thanks.

although it's a road ride, the road out to Jalama Beach is epic if you've never seen it or ridden it. Only 4 miles from Lompoc. The ride is 14 miles from Highway 1 to the beach, and involves about 2500 feet of climbing round trip, There's a little beach store with Jalama Burgers there. And once you get there you can cruise the train tracks (put that El Rey to good use) if you want to get further out toward Point Conception or Point Arguello - heck you could probably ride the tracks back to Lompoc. Everything else I know in that area either involves a ton of climbing, or is really rocky.

My other favorite is Little Pine Mountain and down the Santa Cruz Trail - but it's a lot of climbing, and a fairly technical and exposed singletrack descent.

I've driven by the Jalama beach cut off many times but haven't had time to explore. Also, I thought I heard somewhere that the Zaca file closed areas around Little Pine Mountain. I'll have to check it out. Thanks for the tips Zippo.

i'll look into Little Pine access as well, specifically the route up from Upper Oso Campground - I'll be in SB next weekend and was planning on riding either Lil Pine or Gibraltar Reservoir.

Little Pine (accessed from Upper Oso Campground) is open. Was up there last weekend. Trail was suprisingly in good shape, despite the fires and rains.

When you ride there, they make it easy. There's a volunteer to sell you an adventure pass.
If I don't have to go out of my way to buy it, I actually don't mind paying for one.
