Default Chile Challenge

Sun, rain, snow, mud, roots, rocks and a fricking long DH course, what better way to spend a week in Angel Fire, New Mexico!!! None of us ended up on the podium but we had a great time. The best pro time was 5:19. Not sure what everyone else's times were, but will post them later.

A beautiful canyon on the way up the mountain road

A giant covered wagon (don't know if it was a residence or something else)

Roger, Denmother, Troy and family, Jonathan, Ian, Bobby and Jason all headed out to Angel Fire to race the Chili Challenge. When we arrived on Wednesday it was warm and the tracks were dry and covered with leaves. We walked the bottom half of the DH course and the DS course and decided to wait until Thursday to ride. I managed to take the camera with me for Thursday's practice knowing that the following days would be too hectic. The course was still dry and not burnt in at this point.

Denmother does the 1st long rock garden

Roger on a less technical section

These are my only shots from Friday after the rain and snow.

Jon

Clowns riding the chairlift

Snow at the top of the hill

Standing in line to wash the mud off

Boo (Belongs to Mike the MSC race promoter)

Post practice entertainment by a unicyclist

Misses the gap landing

Makes the landing, wow!!!

Denmother posing with one of her cubs

4x Finals

Jonn (Got 7th or 8th)

Troy (Got 2nd)

Rich Houseman (in 2nd)

Unfortunately there are not a lot of DH trails to ride at this point in time. They show 8 on the map but they were not marked as the bike park had just opened. We got to ride part of the Super D and the XC courses (the uphill rock sections were brutal). We also tried exploring but didn't have much luck. They are hoping to have a better selection of trail networks by next year.

Great place to race! I did the sport XC and pulled a 6th.

Never had any interest in a full suspension rig racing in socal, needless to say considerations are wielding.

Course description:
Dave Weins put it best when he said “I love that XC course at Angel Fire – you spend all that time climbing your way up, then you turn around and climb the whole way back down.” What Dave was referring to was the rugged nature of Angel Fire’s terrain. It’s a true mountain biker’s course that’ll call on every skill you have as a rider. The guys and girls with the best all around game are going to find themselves on the podium here.

Nope, this is my 3rd season wearing it! I only use it for knarly courses (i.e. Bootleg, Whistler, etc.).
