So, Fergus (warpony) and I had talked about doing this ride a few weeks back, then it went and got HOT!

Ah, but the last few days put the idea back in our heads, and we pulled the trigger!

Here's how our ride went for today.....

Parked at the Holy Jim parking area, and yes I got a ticket for no pass.

Up Trabuco, to West Horsethief
It's always a blast. Challenging, technical, flowy, singletrack climbing at it's best!

Up West Horsethief

Yeah, this was as bad as it ever was!
OK, not so bad on fresh leg's.

That's the only picture from WHT. I was to busy suffering!

Across Main Divide.

Down "the Wall" to Blue Jay.

Down Chiquto to Ortega Hwy.

Chiquito has to be one of my favorites! Too much fun!
So much, that I didn't get any pictures.
OK, just one of the waterfall.

I think Fergus got a picture of my crash.

Ortega Hwy to the road that takes you back up to Blue Jay.

Fergus heads to the Candy Store to refuel.

The climbing starts here!

Back up "the Wall".

This is the last I would see of Fergus until I made it to the top.

It was slow going. My leg started to cramp up a bit, so I downed my pickle juice, and solved the problem.

And we finished it off by bombing down Trabuco!

Is there a more fun trail to descend in this area?
I sure can't think of one. With all the steep technical stuff I like to ride, Trabuco, with it's fast, flowy nature, is still towards the top of my list!
Sorry there's not more pics of Trabuco, but once again, it was too much fun to stop!

Fergus working his new Niner!

My GPS wasn't charged, and I couldn't find the charger before heading into work last night, so we don't really have an idea of the miles or elevation.

We were out there for six hours, and I was good and sore by the time we were done.

I crashed on the catapillar spine on Chiquito, but other than that, we had no mechanicals or bad injuries.

Long live long rides!!

Nice RR Big D. I saw Fergus's niner in the back of the Shop at Switckback. Very nice. I guess riding that or his Bionicon would've been be a tough choice. The trails look great after the rains.

Damn...I'm tired it was a good pedal though. I'll post pics when I get them off my camera, but right now I'm almost too tired to think.

Also I have a great sequence of Maxwell once again putting the CRASH in "Crash Maxwell".

Brief ride recap:

New Niner AIR 9 clean, up Trabuco to Horsethief, climb Horsethief (ouch), main divide not so bad, Chiquito (AWESOME as always), Candy Store (yummy), Ortega highway and road up to blue jay (ouch), THE WALL (f@ckin sucks), Trabuco (brings a smile to the face even when exhausted), New Niner AIR 9 not so clean and definitely fun to ride

...gonna finish my beer and go to bed (super awesome right about now)

Will post pics tomorrow.

Hey I was expecting you to make the spine...not to seperate yourself from your bike so spectacularly.

You put a nice dent in the ground BTW.

Nice ride. The conditions look perfect. I bet if I rode with you guys instead of duty, I wouldn't be covered in bruises and beef jerkey right now. Everything is sore from crashing twice within 1/2 mile of cocktail rock.

Nice RR! I'm sure you guys had a blast. Definitely perfect weather for this ride.

BTW, Trabuco is TOP NOTCH in the area!!
