Hey everyone - I'm sure this is a question that gets asked over and over and over but after trying the search option and finding less than I'd hoped for, I figure I'd try a more direct approach.
What are some good newbie, and I'm talking true newbie, trails to go on in the OC? I've already ridden Peters Canyon and Coyote Run/down Mathis at Aliso. I'm going to continue riding these trails, but would also like to explore other options as well. I'm in the North OC area and am willing to do a bit of a drive, although not anything over an hour. I haven't tried the Fully Loop and missed the Sunday ride today although I am planning on going out to one SOON. Thanks! ![]() |

I would second Telegraph canyon in Chino Hills State Park... You get to the trail head off carbon canyon from the Brea side. Do it as an in and back. Once you get your skills up Chino Hills SP offers sooo many more trails to explore.
Fully Loop is a great trail but i found that in my beginning stages the Fully Loop actually has some pretty steep hills that kicked my butt... still do from time to time... |

There are quite a number of good trails in El Morro, Laguna Coast Wilderness Park, and Aliso/Wood Cyn.
In these areas you'll find trails suitable for anybody from newbie to advanced riders. If you don't already have them, you may want to get the Franko's map for the South Coast and "Mountain Biking Orange County" guide book by Randy Vogel/Larry Kuechlin.

This site has maps of lots of the riding areas in Orange County and each map has the trails designated as beginner, intermediate, etc.
Click on the links on the left-hand side of the page to bring up the maps. Happy Trails! |

I'll put in a vote for both Fully loop and telegraph. They're both mostly easy, and everything difficult is an option. The Loop does have some hairier parts, but its nothing that people can't just slow down for and take easy. So far I've had good luck teaching 4 people how to ride there, with very little carnage.
