I just don't understand why my gears aren't shifting clean.

Even still, I was not alone...there were two other numbskulls that wanted to tough it out with me!

Most of the trail really wasn't too bad, but the few sections that were slippery really wreaked havoc on the bikes! You guys sure didn't miss anything...unless slipping and sliding in the mud is your thing!

As much as wanted to ride, I chose not to because I didn't want to damage the trail.

I think you should be thanked for supporting local bike shops by destroying your drivetrain so thoroughly Workers at Shimno go home with bellies full of rice thanks to you.

Whose Weyless? I love seeing them. (I have one too.) I saw a guy at Santiago Oaks and I said "Nice bike!" as he rode by. A little while later he says "Ohhh...nice bike :-)"

I agree you should remove the mud post. It's just a flame waiting to happen.
I recognize your passion but many will find unnecessary mud riding to be trail damaging. I have been stuck in a random rain storm and rode home in some crazy mud not by choice. I have to say it was challenging and fun.

Wow people actually showed up!?

Trail erosion, be it natural or man made will create some new obstacles for you to ride, dont you guys do this loop twice a week? It will make things a little more interesting!

I know the horses make huge potholes after the rains on some trails at least a bike tire leaves a nice line to ride

Jeeeeeez, every time it rains someone posts a ride and then someone else complains about it. And no it wont help by taking the post down. Ruts are like taxes you cant avoid them.

I agree but I am also giving the benefit of the doubt here. Weather forecasting is a joke in Socal. A hurricane could be over Catalina right now and we wont know about it until it hits Palm Springs.

Like I said...the vast majority of the trail, you couldn't even see tire tracks...it was THAT DRY. How do I know? I was there!

Honestly, I don't ride if I'm making ruts. And I put in my (monthly) 8 hours of trail maintenance a couple weeks ago, so please, do the same before you call me out. Our Adopt-A-Trail is the 2N04 in Sugarloaf near Big Bear Lake.

Like I thought, most of the trail soaked up the water. There was hardly any puddling at all...even though the parking lot and local streets suggested otherwise.

The "real" rain started as we passed the 6 mile mark, so we were damned if we did and damned if we didn't. It had stopped raining all together before we got back to the cars.

There were 3 stretches that were too wet to ride, so we walked. Even that posed a challenge though. The 3 muddy parts were mostly "slick" and you didn't "sink in" more than an inch...the climb near Bastanchury, the singletrack before reaching the lake, and one other stretch I can't recall. As I said...I walked. I couldn't pedal anyway.

So all you rut-watchdogs...when are you doing YOUR trail maintenance, hmmm? I'll be doing mine the first weekend of June.

You need to contact the Forest Service in the area you're interested in (Cleveland, Angeles, etc).
