Goodbye to and old friend "Tecolote Hill"

I posted about this years ago in eMTyBeeR when I first found out about it and got all kind of mean replies from political to just crazy, the point of this is to give my farewell to a fireroad that was my first nemesis and climbing teacher and a "friend".
The federal government decided to fill up this canyon with dirt to build a new double fence, after years of litigation and environmental studies it looks like construction will start next month.
There is a tough climb fireroad on one sides that we call "Tecolote Hill" but the Border Patrol calls it Smugglers Canyon and I'm sure there is a reason for that.
Tecolote Hill will be history soon and is hard to say goodbye to an old friend, one that has got the best and worst of me, show me how to climb, pace, rest to attack, almost cry and puke some times all in the same ride.
It took me months to clear this climb, I walked then rode it in sections then I went wide on the turn to catch up my breath and then one day I clear the whole thing!
I moved on to another trails but will always remember Tecolote Hill, we rode it today for what might be the last time. Goodbye old friend.

They put it off for years but it looks like this time is for real, will see.

Yeah... joey probably cleared it on his SS doing a wheelie up the whole thing... go figure!

It will be a monumental proyect, there is some singletrack near by along the river bed and I hope it will survive.

The upper part is the hardest, you can't tell from this picture but is very steep.
