Default Aliso woods monday and Bike Report: 2008 trek remedy 8 (pr0n enclosed)

So I recently brought a 2008 Trek Remedy 8 home from work to demo. I had it in my living room for almost a week, but couldn't ride it due to the whole busy school schedule thing (LAME).

Anyways, this monday I braved the 90ish degree temperatures and took the bike out.

review in short: frikkin awesome!

The bike was a size too small (17.5 vs. 19.5 that I usually ride), so it felt just a bit odd. That said, I cleaned that steep, short climb up to 5 oaks from MILF park for the first time ever, thanks to the lyrik 2 step fork. Down 5 oaks (which is in real good shape right now) I don't think I've ever been faster. the beefy lyrik w/ 20mm thru axle and the ABP at the rear, coupled with the RP23XV kept my tires hooked up through everything. I found myself launching off of rocks that I usually roll and holding way more speed into the turns than I'm used to. When I needed to stop, the XT brakes were great (if not a bit loud).

From there I climbed up cholla, not too much excitement except that the lowered fork and 3lb. drop from my 07 remedy helped me up there in a pretty quick time, despite the heat.

Next came Lynx, this is where I noticed the size of the bike. I felt too cramped up to really fly through the flowy parts up top, but once the ruts started, the ABP went to work and I spent very little time on the brakes. The slightly slackened head angle (i think) compared to last year's, plus the fact that it was easy to throw my weight back with the short TT meant that I was able to kill the rough spots of lynx.

My plan from there was to climb up Mathis, but after about half of the climb, with the sun beating on my back, I decided I was done. Didn't want to suffer any more to be able to come down rock it. I spun it around, pointed it down, and went back to the bottom of the canyon. I've never descended mathis until now, and I definitely prefer the more interesting descents in Aliso, but it was still good. then back to the car and home for some lunch.

Bored yet????? here's some pics:

that bermed turn looks better and better each time i drop in on this trail :

I think I saw you out there and thought that was a beautiful bike. I love that color and their frame designs are improving with leaps and bounds.

Nice bike

It would be great if you can join Tim (aka station) and the rest of the "Bug Crusher" crew for an after work (Tuesdays or Thursdays) ride in the park.

Sure, Mondays will work for me if you guys want to meet on June 2. It will also give me some time to recover after my little bike accident.

Do you guys want to change the ride location to El Moro and meet at Ridge Park? I think grant, DirtVert, mtbmichael, gregOREO, and others might join us as well.

when you say you 'cleaned the climb', you meant you climbed it from the bottom right?

not from the bottom of 5 oaks, from the back side behind the houses.

There's no way I'd make it up 5 oaks. I guess its not so impressive if you were thinking i went up oaks, but it was still my first time getting up the back side without dabbing.
