Default Chino Hills Brush Fire (with video)

So I went out to pre-ride the route for my birthday ride this weekend. I saw one pretty snake and enjoyed the outdoors. It was a nice, uneventful ride, until I was coming down Bane Canyon Road to exit the park. I smelled a bit of smoke but didn't see anything.

As I made the turn around the big tree, I saw smoke coming from the hillside and no one around. I kept saying to myself, "shit shit shit shit." I was afraid this fire would spread since there were no fire fighters on the scene yet. Our house is about 500 yards from where this fire was burning, so I was worried.

Passing the fire I could feel the heat and I was hauling down the hill getting ready to call 911 when I saw fire engines coming up the road to take care of business. Here are some pics and video I snapped as the fire fighters did their thing.

I had to stop filming because the smoke was getting thick and the fire fighters behind me were telling me to get out of the area. Thank you to the fire fighters who kept this fire from spreading and getting out of hand!

The good thing about this fire is that it gave me the opportunity to meet other riders on the trail, particularly a couple named Drago and Andra. They were coming up the hill as I was coming out of the park. I told them about STR and invited the join us on Saturday. Cool people I wouldn't have met had their not been a fire.

Oh, and here are pics of the beautiful snake that made my day.

Big Gopher. I used to keep them as pets.

I thought about bringing that gopher snake home, but that would be illegal. also, it snapped at me and I don't want that kind of attitude in my house.

Thumbs up Cool post

Cool pics. It's funny, just the other day we were hiking Bane ridge and started going thru the single track which was way overgrown and dry. As we go thru there, it dawns on me that it would not be the safest place to be in a brush fire. I guess it's not funny, but a bit escary

Cheers
