Default Edison-Bonzai -- It's Like Riding in Whiting!

Saw this loop posted by Royster71 on Geoladders and had to give it a go today despite temps hovering around 90 degrees at 5pm.

It was a short but fun loop and due to it's proximity to Whiting, it really felt like I was riding Whiting again. This area is under the Limsestone-Whiting management sphere but escaped unscathed in fires last fall. The final downhill has some "surprise" drops and turns and even a big ramp jump that I avoided.

There are some fun sections and a couple sketchy sections I didn't ride (since I was alone). The trail is rutty in places and could use some work but I'd recommend checking it out if you're local and want to try something different. You can link it in with a run through O'Neill like I did.

It's accessed via the Aliso Creek Trail near RSM parkway and El Toro.

Here's some photos...

Here's the start trail off the paved trail.

edison_2.jpg

edison_3.jpg
Alot of the trail is fireroad.

edison_4.jpg
Some nice views along the way.

edison_6.jpg
When the fireroad splits on a downhill, take the right slit and watch for singletrack in the right.

edison_5.jpg
If you miss it, you'll end up at the closed entrance to Whiting.

edison_7.jpg
This hill looks mellow, but it was a rutted tech hill climb challenge.

edison_8.jpg

edison_9.jpg
Head uphill through this "playground" section.

edison_10.jpg
Eventually the trail climbs up along then above Glenn Ranch Road.

edison_11.jpg
Yes, the trail goes through this v ditch.

edison_12.jpg
The trail on this section is quite narrow...narrower than it looks.

edison_13.jpg
Take a left at this junction.

edison_16.jpg
Looks like the old Cactus Trail in Whiting huh? Felt like it too.

edison_17.jpg
Big drop with no runout. I walked it.

edison_18.jpg
Lots of poison oak.

edison_19.jpg
Bridge with a surprise uphill after it.

edison_20.jpg
Heading down a mellower part of Bonzai ridge.

edison_21.jpg
When the trail is a 4-way intersection continue straight onto this not-so-well-travelled singletrack.

Enjoy!

This is the same loop I was taking after work. It's pretty close to my house. Excellent ride if you are on a time crunch. I usually park by the L.A. Fitness on the corner of El Toro and ride in from there. Thanks for posting up pics! I miss it since I busted my azz!

Last Friday I did a trail run there and was amazed at the giant clusters of pear cactus. Don't fall in!

This is a fun ride. Not really challenging. If you extend the ride an connect to a trail that leads over to the top of oneil park then you can turn this into a killer ride with about 1800+ of climbing with some fun single track and easy DH. Plus there are some fun jumps built back on edison.

we need to plan an Edison ride to show this trail off.

Lots o ticks and PO.
