That's the ticket. Old Boys Scout remedy and like Steve said, it works and it's free!

Kanga, thanks for the prevention tips. Any suggestions on what to do after contact and once a minor outbreak occurs?
Hot, hot showers and scratch

No, seriously... for a localized outbreak the Zanfel or generic equivalents work well. If the itching gets too much follow that with, 1% hydrocortisone cream, over the counter. If it comes out in places you know you didn't touch it, it has gone systemic and you should see a doctor for a course of methylprednisone.

Or for the "au natural" remedy, find some mugwort, chew it in your mouth into a paste and apply the poultice over the affected area. Should soothe the itch and help draw out the fluid. You can also do the same with oatmeal (plain, no sugar), cooked up like normal into a paste.

I had to do the methylprednisone when we did a day of trailwork to re-route the bottom of Ken Burton Trail. I had it over 60% of my body... that wasn't fun.

I'd ride the gab in a second even as sensitive as I am, and even if I didn't do anything preventive or precautionary. I just love that trail!

$3 off coupon if you buy it at Rite Aid.

Here's a testimonial from the Buji web site:

“Thank you, thank you, thank you!
I am an avid mountain biker, hiker, father of two outdoors loving girls, and husband to a very poison oak sensitive wife. We use the block and wash with great success, and for whatever reason (and I don't really care either), your products work better than Tecnu and as well as Zanfel (for a much lower cost) as a wash, and better than Ivy Block for the pre-activity prep. …” ~ Troy. Boy, doesn't that bring back some lovely memories! LOL!

Thanks to you and Hans and the great trail work/clean-up you all did on KB, I managed to find the bed of cut PO and superman'd right in the heart of it. Yep, systemic it became. Steve suggested Methylprednisone and a great friend who's a doctor wrote me a prescription. It finally (slowly) started subsiding but not before 2 weeks of pure burning and itching hell.
We all must be out of our freakin' minds because we keep going back, knowing the risks and pain involved. Very interesting phenomena!

Steve, I am considering hitting the Gab tomorrow AM (Thursday) if you're interested in riding it with a mere mortal such as myself?
PM me if your interested and we can work out specifics.

BTW, we missed you at Brown /El P last night

I've got a couple small spot of PO on my legs and usually it takes 4-5 days for me to get it. Even if it gets worse the ride was well worth it. Thanks Dino for setting it up.

GT Avalanche full rigid in 88! Climbing it, then riding back down. I've loved it for a long time, but never used to get poison oak, or even knew what it was.

Boy I'm I glad that I'm one of the few people that isn't allergic to it. Their were a few spots on the trail it was impossible not to make contact with it.

Likewise... Piranha has told me on several breaks on numerous rides..."Hey, you know you just rode through a big old patch of P.O., don't you?" I really don't know if I did or didn't, but so far I haven't got the itch. As I understand it, continued exposures increases the probablility of having adverse reactions to it. My most troublesome bother is those little biting black flys, and the mosquitos this spring. Nothing like a bite on the back of the elbow that itches and weeps for 2 full weeks or more after a bite. Then there's the horse flies.
