See our report at: I'm with Stupid (or Taming Miss Kitty)

For all the gory details of why Greg was climbing by himself.
BTW, I was running up to TOTW

He keep up with me riding him pushing. He was on his heavy DJ singlespeed and had already done a lap before we got there..

The Trail In My Own Words
One of the best!!! the trail is so much fun and challenging and the views are spectacular and the climbs are very doable but just a little painful, yes just a little. Definitely, you'll see me again when there's an Aliso Ride. All

A great turn out and i almost got lost so thanks to Fred for the direction. And 1FGrider, for taking the time to take pictures, and the sweepers Fred and Pato for making sure everyone make it safe and sound back to the parking lot. To all the STR rider who joined the ride today at Aliso, thank you for making this one of the best newbie rides.

One More Thing........ When is the next Aliso Ride?

no pictures, just video
I basically do a slightly shorter version of this ride Tuesday and Thursday nights, and at least once on the weekends. So feel free to come along.

I thought more people would show up at the brewery for the mac off...good times being overserved beer and eating mac and cheese.

I am not sure what trails we rode other then up cholla to top of the world to disneyland and then back out of disneyland to somewhere downhill to dripping cave. It was a crew of 11 of us not sure of the names but the guys were pretty fast...maybe too fast for me to enjoy. I enjoyed cholla climb but the rest of the ride didnt seem all that great. Maybe I got on a bad connection of trails not sure but the 2 guys I came down with thought the same. Maybe we are spoiled with our backyard trails. Fun day none the less but I dont think I would drive 80 miles round trip to do it again.

funny thing is I hadn't realised there was a newbie ride that day until after my first loop with the Adrenaline guys. (I dont have internet at home)

I need to introduce myself next time! saw a few familiar faces from a group ride a while back that I have yet to actually meet. And some new people as well, someone said 1 or 2 have not joined STR yet?

Who was the person that fell over on a climb that cuts off to the right of Lynx? Who was the guy with a missing cleat on his shoe?

I need to join more of these newbie rides!

Who were all the people on bikes??

Default Warning: LENGTHY! Aliso from a Beginner's Perspective =)

Yesterday was great! It was a great turnout and we split into groups right away with different destinations. I stayed with the main group and headed out towards Cholla. I've heard nothing but horror stories about Cholla so I will admit I was a bit scared and was expecting the worst. It actually wasn't as bad as I was thinking (haha, still didn't make it up with much success but I would definitely like to come back and keep trying it until I make it up!). It was however, pretty draining energy-wise, thank you Pato/Duc for sticking with me and giving me all the good tips! Then we headed towards the top (up Mathis? Top of the World?) which was challenging more fitness-wise than technical-wise. Stopped for a bit at the top and then headed towards Meadows.

After some road riding we got to this steep short downhill section followed by an INSANE uphill with smooth rocks at the top section to boot! I knew there was no chance in hell I was going to make it uphill and the downhill was pretty scary to me (haha it didn't help that Pato had busted out his full face helmet) and although I kept falling WALKING down a portion of it to see how bad it really was, I thought, "Why not? Got to learn/improve somehow..." Mtnbikerfred was kind enough to let me follow his line and although I wasn't very successful (haha when someone tells you NOT to follow them over a large boulder and yet you do... that's NOT good... LOL) I am pretty proud of myself for trying! I've come a long way in terms of psyching myself out downhill.

Meadows was next and that was a whole new challenge since TURNING is NOT my strong point! Once again, Fred was awesome enough to let me follow him with myself, Elvia, and Pato in tow. We went super slow and they showed me how to turn with maneuvering my body and the bike and towards the end I began to relax a bit and Fred was right, my mouth was starting to hurt from smiling so much! I think I did pretty well considering my turning disability, only dabbing/stumbling a few times and my only crash being on a flat section, at nearly a stop, when I ran right INTO Fred (Note to self: Keep my eyes on where I want my bike to go, NOT who's talking, EVEN when barely moving) LOL. THANKS SOOO MUCH to Duc and Fred for taking the time and showing us.

Next was Dripping Cave and RichieRich was cool enough to sweep and was AWESOME at calling what was coming up ahead on the trail! Thanks Rich! =)

All in all, I had SOOO much fun and I can NOT wait to get back and practice all my new skills. THANKS SO MUCH to Pugz for posting the ride, everyone who took pictures, and especially to the SWEEPERS who got to keep me company =) I seriously learned SO MUCH because of you guys (Pato, Fred, etc), I really appreciate it! Glad I got to meet some more STR folk and had fun hanging out with the ones I already know!

Yet again, another great STR ride =)

Mac-off at the Tustin brewery was good times for sure.....

As far as the trail goes, we rode Cholla across to TOTW, across the pavement to Disneyland(out and back) and then headed down Meadows(I think)... and then back up Coyote back to Milf park. about 13ish on the mileage. Wasn't really my cup of tea, but riding MTB's with good people is always a good time......

Hey, where's my pic? Me and my buddy were at the entrance with you guys. Saw you setting up to take pics on our way down...

Yeah, too much brakes down Oaks=you probably will crash; just flow with it...

Pugz,

Thanks for putting this ride together.

Definitely a fun time. Thanks for showing some of us Meadows for our 1st time.
Definitely a place I'll be riding until I get it right. The turns, well I need to pracitce and practice.

Fred thanks for talking me into exploring meadows. Now you have to go back please. I can ride more of Meadows. As I said at the ride during Meadows (Fred I hate right now - I am sure we will be cool after this) definately cool. Thanks a bunch!

Pato/Paco thanks again for hanging with me not the 1st time you have this kinda patience with me. You have to admit this was better than my ride down rock-it. Was it?

Tara - It's was fun riding with you.

Well now I have knee pads thanks to Fred for my next ride.

When are we riding meadows again?

-Elvia

Camera was acting weird since the start of the ride. Thought I took a lot more pics but when I came home only a handful were saved Couldn't even get Hanzo (or was he too fast for shutter?)
