Default good ride to take my friend on? he's new to mtb

So I brought home a demo bike for my friend to try out tomorrow. It'll be his first time mountain biking.

Here's what I have planned:

ride the 10 miles from my house on the road to the top of jamboree (will allow me to get his fit sorted)

then, 3 B's and up to the start of the chutes loop, a sidetrack over and around the weir loop, and back down chutes.

On the way back we'll ride up big red (i think that's the hill) and along the ridge, take the ST down, pick up the bike trail, then cruise back to my place for some bbq (possibly) and some brew (definitely).

I suppose I should mention that he basically rides his fixed gear everywhere, and regularly rides from his place in newport to school at cal state fullerton and back, so he's definitely fit.

I figure the weir loop will warm him up for barham ridge and chutes.

He also skates so he's not really afraid of eating it.

pretty good right? think we'll hit about 36 miles (approx. 23 on the road).

that's what I'm hoping!!

He's been wanting me to take him out on a ride for months now, i figure he'll probably end up getting an SS because of his smallish budget and the fact that he's totally used to mashing on his fixed. He told me to take him somewhere fun, and I can't think of anything more fun than my local loop.

I'd take him to aliso if I had gotten an FS bike for him to demo (don't want to have him rolling a hardtail down 5 oaks, or jarring his teeth out on rock it). So I figured chutes will give him a taste of what fun, slightly tech single track is all about. plus there's always smooth lines around the rock gardens.

Don't make him climb too much at first or he will think it's too much work. You should start him out easy and see how he feels then increase the milage as you ride if he's up for it. Since it will be his first time on dirt, he has to take baby steps before he can run. Just my .02

I agree with genus. Most people I've taken out don't like climbing a whole lot at first.

I'd say go to Aliso. Coyote Run is smooth and flat; I think thats a good trail for starters.

You know, that's what I thought initially, but then this is the same guy that made me ride up newport coast pushing 46x16 on our last ride together.

I'm gonna make him pay for that, and then show him some fun singletrack.

I've also had a few drinks tonight to... umm... i guess maybe equalize things. or maybe i just wanted to have a few drinks tonight.

Well, you could always make him climb Mathis then go wander Aliso for a while.
