Default coolest 24 hour race

Hey all,
Just got back from a great weekend of bikes, cool people, and general awesomeness. Headed up to San Luis Obispo thursday night and hooked up with some friends to catch a ride up north. We rolled in and set up camp right next to the finish line (turned out to be a good decision). Cal Poly was racing with 3 5-man teams, but there were the usual pain junkies out there doing the race by themselves.

Things went quite well. Our man Menso (some of you may know of him if you frequent that other site) took a record 47 minute lap for his first, and our other guys rolled in around an hour and 1:10. Everything kept going pretty well, save a few people heading for the bathroom instead of waiting for their start cue .

I was happy to get out and ride a lap (unofficial, i technically couldn't race because of the broken finger). My friend loaned me his jump bike, and I had a great time cranking around the course with the 34/17 gear ratio, and 15" seat tube (I'm 6'5" ). The climbs were painful considering bike sizing issues and not riding much for the last month, but the downhills were worth it. Lots of super fast singletrack and bright orange dust everywhere made for great fun when coupled with a light, flickable SS

When night came, things got cold, but everyone kept trucking on. what i believe is an atlas moth decided to take up residence on kevin's backpack, and stayed there for a good 8 hours or so. We called him Tenacious Moth

and since I know you guys like to look at colorful pictures rather than read a bunch of words, here are a few:

Camp:

Bikes

David

Calm before the storm

Kelley

Chris

Patrick rocking the daisy dukes

Soloists

Pierre hitting the turn like its supposed to be hit

random guy

Spencer and other random people

some random guy i was trying out multiple exposures on

clusterf*ck

Kevin with Tenacious Moth

If anyone raced up there, let me know your number. I took random pictures of people, so i may have you in here somewhere. Also a bike description and number plate color helps

-Peace

Cool you SLO guys actually get together and ride as a TEAM. The kids down here at UCSD are so busy studying or riding ther DH bikes that I'm stuck riding by myself all the time. Yay team sprit!

I might make it up to Parkfield in October if you can promise me it won'r rain this time.

my lungs are fine, but then again i only did one lap . My shoes are still going to be orange for a little while though. They got wet at the big creek, which just made it like cement

I'll dig around and see if i can find any pics of you though.

zippy, you should come to parkfield anyway. even though it poured like mad the night before, everything but a few parts of the XC course were slightly damp and friggin awesome tacky. plus, we have some more shennanigans in the works for this year, like an updated pixie bike course (can't let UC Davis one up us ), possibly an observed trials exhibition, and a few other goodies in addition to the normal fair. Oh yah, and prolly a lot of beer

I was there this year, the men's "A" course was tough and I got smoked. Watching people do keg stands and then race XC the next morning was entertaining for sure. Id' have to say the highlight was Mick clearing that huge gap on his pixie bike...IN-SANE!

yeah, I raced the C's course and it was pain after the night before. Then again, I never really trained for anything.

The pixie stuff was nuts. I think the record got up to 22 feet while still clearing the log. that's rediculous when you actually think how far 22 feet is. I'm almost scared to do something like that on a normal sized bike. (probably not anymore, but at the time...) I also hear gobel hit the G-out on his pixie at some point during the night
