Default Thunder Mountain, Utah

Spent a couple days in Utah Mtb'ing. We went to ride Gooseberry, but thats a different RR. Spent Saturday on a trail called Thunder Mountain.
Now I have never been to Utah before, and must say I was not dissapointed.
The ride started with 8 mile ride up paved trail and dirt road, but it too was a nice ride.
But after that, it was all singletrack, with constantly changing scenery.
Beignthat the elevation was at 8,000 -9,000 ft, the temps were a little chlly, and the air thin. The thin air did take it's toll on my climbing performance, but hey, I still ahd a great time even when trying to catch my breat with these lungs used to OC elevations.

Once at the trail head, there was a few miles of rolling trails through forest, with minor climbs thrown in.
Once we left this first part, well the scenery became spectacular!

The last two miles were fast, rolling singletrack, just gave me a big smile, and was giggling like a girl......

It was over 2500 ft elevation gain, with 18 miles of riding.
Enjoy the pics!

The ride to the trail head..

The trail Head...

And a couple more...

This trail is definitely one of the best I've ridden.
The trail is in practically pristine condition. Hasn't had much use so far this season, and there is still a little snow next to the trail.
As DeeZee said, the top 10...

Didn't take too many action shots, was too busy riding and catching my breath...

This place has been on my list for a long time and
is something I need to check off soon. I couldn't
talk my mates into going out there on our way to
moab last year...doh. How far is it from St.George
to the trail head anyway?

From St. George is less than 2 hr. drive trough Zion National Park, if you ever make that drive make sure to have your camera ready, amazing views!

And make sure you have $25 to pay for the drive through Zion NP.
Great views all around.

Too bad we (me, Dean, Scott, and Lynn) missed you! What time did you guys ride? You must have ridden by our campsite (gray F250 near the trailhead).

We headed out early (it got down into the 20's Friday night), rode Thunder Mt., and then rode a number of trails on the other side of the highway.

Photos simply fail to do this place justice... it's one of the most breathtaking rides i've done yet. Thanks for the RR!

Your right, pics just don't do it justice.

We stayed at a hotel in Hurricane ( HurCan as the locals say ) rode Thunder Sat at around 10 am, the did a quick hour or so at Goose that evening about 5pm.
Went back to Goose Sunday and had some tech fun!
Kept my eyes out, but never saw the 575's or Turner....

I love that trail. I hear that Disney got the idea for the Thunder Mountain Railroad ride from that trail. The trail is more fun than the Disney ride!
