Default Blood, Sweat & Gears or Jake Does Castaic

Excellent riding conditions today. Temps were perfect and trail conditions ripe for the plucking.

Jake (BAD_S197) showed up with his new BMC Superstroke looking sharp and ready for action. Joining us was Mike (Magna Graecia) and my son Ted. We made a few adjustments in the parking lot and set out on it's (the BMC's) maiden voyage.

"Before"

I didn't take a lot of shots today and no real action shots, but we did make some stops to enjoy the scenery.

I haven't noticed these before, but it looks like they are ready to 'pop'.

The first lap was mostly uneventful although Jake did dust himself up just a bit in one spot in the creek bed singletrack. To his credit, he made the call to go for a second lap.

We saw a good size gopher snake although we didn't manage to get a pic of him. A short distance later we came across some horny toads experiencing some mountain-bikus-interruptus, although I think they were doing it wrong

We all felt better on the second climb-up after a good warmup on the first lap...

and finished climbing feeling pretty good.

While Jake was 'busy' at the top of the climb, I took the opportunity to add some 'BMC pron' pics to my collection.

The design and workmanship on this frame is a beautiful thing to behold. It does not look 'wispy' in any way and has that 'thrash me' look all over it.

We had gone down Chicken Run the first time, saving Burn Victim for dessert. Both Mike and Jake took the opportunity to do a little nipple surfing but nothing serious. Jake can certainly claim it as an SPD learning event (I surely would ).

Here's the 'after' shot of Jake and his new ride. I think they both look better with some dirt on them . It a great looking bike. That Mustang he hauls it around in is pretty sharp too.

Post ride grub at Casa Lupita finished off a fine ride in style. Thanks for making the trek up.

Glad we could share the BMC's first ride and looking forward to more.

I'd like to see some pics of it in the Mustang to see how it fits. I got my old stumpjumper in a Miata tho...
How about a thread saying how certain cars fit bikes inside them?

My daughter had a 2001 Mustang and it was a real shoehorn job to get a bike in that car, but Jake's newer style 'stang had plenty of room for his bike even with the extra 'stuff' he has in there.

OTOH, Mike's old school Mazda RX7 takes an engineers brain to wrap around the concept of 'bike fit' to get his bike in there.

It would make a good thread in the 'General' section to see how everyone transports their bikes.

Ya'll need to see Jeff and Ted stuffing both their bikes in Jeff's car.

Sounds like it was a great ride. I walked out side this morning about 07:15hrs and thought, "F***!! This is great riding weather!!" but my knee would not let me.
I was stuck cleaning up the garage, cleaning drains, etc etc etc.

That BMC sure looks good. Wounder if Jake went home and passed out, that last pic looks like he needs a beer and a couch.

Interesting, the perspective of the lens in this shot. Is that a 29'er rear with a 26 up front, or a tropical delusion?

Two words come to mind: "monkeys" & "footballs"

The weather today was nothing short of stellar for riding. The good news is that it looks to be pretty good for the next few days at least as well.

He really put together a nice build and that frame looks like it will be there for the long haul.

I'll leave that up to Jake to either confirm or deny

That is definitely a cycloptical occlusion. It's a straight up 26"er, but with the angle and 6" rotor on the rear wheel vs. 8" rotor on the front, I could see how it looks that way.

I'm definately sore this morning. I think I bruised some ribs because takeing a deep breath hurts like no other. If I lift anything it hurts and this morning I sneezed and thought i punctured a lung it hurt so bad.

Definately a learning experience but so much fun at the same time.

I crashed the first time when the front end washed out and I took the brunt of the impact on my side, tucking my arm in to my side to help take the impact and not sticking it out and risk braking it.

The second one I was going down a little dip and up the other side in the wrong gear. I changed gears to get some go power and the front end came up a little and i went over the side into some bushes/brush still clipped in, adding insult to injury.

I'll recover this week and see about making it out this saturday for more riding.

As for the bike... It's awesome. The ride was very smooth and the bike handled well, probably better once I get used to riding it. Yesterday was the first time riding the bike so I dont think i'm used to it yet. I'm also still getting back into riding aside from the once time I went to SART last year. I'm in need of practice and more riding.

I had a lot of fun and everyone was really cool and a fun group to hang out with.

I can't wait to get back out and do some more trails etc...
