Default Warriors Society Holy Jim/Trabuco Trail Work

Today 16 Warriors members braved hot temps and fields of poison oak to keep the trails clear for the public. We met at Holy Jim lot where some of us drove in and the rest rode in. We then split up with most of us heading up Trabuco where most of the work was needed and the rest heading up Holy Jim.

After several hours of work the poison oak had been cleared on Holy Jim up to the falls and on Trabuco up to the Main Divide. Also some brush work was done on the shale section of Trabuco to move the trail away from the cliff edge.

Bob M. drove too fast up Trabuco Creek Road and lost his bike in the process. Here he is assessing damage.

Thanks to all those who came out and busted a$$ today. The trails are in great shape now for the Traverse and Toad Festival. They are BEGGING to be ridden. Enjoy!

Don't wait too long or the wildflowers will all die back. It's beautiful out there on Holy Jim right now.

Just an FYI warriors are not the only ones allowed up there. Theres lots of other Forest Service Volunteers up there like the sierra club SAMHNA Quail unlimited hot shots etc. Anyone can go to the F/S and ask for permit, not just warriors so if you'd like acecess just email the F/S and say that you'd like to patrol or do volunteer work in the closed area, I'm a warrior and the last 3 times I was granted acess into the closed area had nothing to do with the Warrior's Society. also the Forest may open up early. There talking about opening up in summer.

Yeah, big thanks to the Poison Oak choppers!
How do you guys clear poison oak without touching the stuff? Last time I went through Trabuco a few weeks ago the PO was getting pretty thick. I only got a little spot of it on my leg but I know I touched some of the unavoidable newer chutes that were hanging into the trail at least 4 or 5 times.

VERY carefully.

Actually Chris Vargas clears alot of it himself. He dons a hazmat-like suit and haves at it with the weed whacker. NOTE this is not a good idea for most folks because there is poison oak bits and fumes flying EVERYWHERE...but he seems to not get it..yet.

The rest of us are just real careful not to touch it and then I take Tecnu scrub-downs in a cool shower as soon as possible after the work ends. As soon as I exit the trail I use alcohol-based wet wipes to wipe off my exposed skin areas to try and combat any areas that might be affected.

Oh and the #1 rule...especially for guys...TAKE YOUR GLOVES OFF before you take a leak!!!!
