Default So Cal Bike Park Sneak Peak

Tonight I went out to Vail lake for my usual Thursday evening training ride. I was curious to see what all the talk has been about with my own eyes. I know this thing is still in it's early stages but I was still a little excited to see what was going on. So I figured I would do my normal routine...dam climb a couple of times in the middle ring and start pounding some descents. While I was out I figured I would pop over to see EC's recent work.

When I pulled up in the parking lot I ran into Robert Herber (Racers and Chasers). He was chatting with his buddy Matt and I decided to try and hang with these guys for the evening. We climbed up ladders and rode some more new single track. We got tunnel in of course and at the end of evening I wanted to go check out what EC had been working on to snap a few pics. I can't wait for this thing to come alive.

Everything is way to soft to ride but it all looked really cool. We just gotta hope that MX guys don't come and destroy the work so if you see anyone out there ask them nicely to piss off!! Here ya go...

Chillin in the shade...

EC's home as of late...

Little tabletop...

Calf burner up and left...

Nice little gap...

Another view...

You would be heading this direction...

Kicker gap...

I do hope all the proper permits were puilled and Environmental Impact Reports were properly prepared and filed before you started that project.

It's all privately owned land. Not sure if that makes a difference or not.

No, it makes no difference. Zoning laws, sensitive species, too many people in California, it's all regulated to death when it comes to private property and what you can or can not do, even in the wasteland known as the desert, let alone this, in Riverside County, near Vail Lake.

So you're NOT supposed to plow under protected plants to build jumps? Oh...

Let's not all assume the worst here. We, the general STR public, don't know how long these plans have been in the works. They could have had their EIR done long ago.

i don't get it, 1080. you have a link to a rare plant that grows near vail lake- it has only 3 populations, one on private property. i'm thinking that's one of the reasons why we have zoning laws, regulations, etc. you should read "desert solitaire" if you think the desert is a wasteland. or go to the visitors' center in j. tree. or just take a walk.

TK, with all due respect, these aren't the last pictures of Vail that will ever be posted. If Luke hadn't posted them, you would've seen someone else do it eventually. When it opens and folks go to ride there, this site will have pics of Vail posted on it.

In fact, pics of Vail went up on littermag.com today.

now, now... it's only ok to annihilate sensitive species when you’re building the countless housing developments and strip malls that abound that area. I drive past there on the 79 on my way to amago mx track almost weekly and that whole area is being leveled for the above.

But, if you’re going to pile dirt up into mounds it all of the sudden becomes a detrimental thing to the fragile environment. I hate people sometimes, er, usually.

Vail lake resort is owned and ran by Native Americans not sure if the land is reservation land too, but the laws may be different due to this.

We have spent a ton of time out at Vail Lake for numerious races put on by several organizations, my assumption would be Vail Lake Resort is doing everything by the book.

I agree with the overdevelopment of the land and how cool this bike park will be. I see my riding going to another level when it finally opens.
