Default Penasquitos 4/5-6

I received the following e-mail today. Might be good to avoid LPQ this weekend. I wonder if they're bringing someone to pick up all the road apples.

Quote:
Can’t drive to all the rides you want because of high gas prices? Have a young or old horse that needs miles? Tired of the same old trails? Want to try a distance ride, but they are all too far away? This ride might be for you!

April 4th and 5th in the Los Penasquitos Canyon Preserve, just minutes off I-15 freeway and the Mercy Road exit. This is a one day NATRC (competitive trail ride) ride with 2 distances (30-34 and 20- 24 miles) and lunch is included in your entry. Don’t want to be in the competition? Ride “distance only” and see new trails with your equine friend. This is a times ride, it is not a race.

The trails are in Poway and Los Penasquitos Canyon and have excellent footing, lots of water and a variety of settings. The morning’s trail is east in Poway following the creek. The trail passes under I-15, through beautiful oak and sycamore woodlands. The afternoon trails are in the park with many water crossings and cool coastal breezes. Ride camp is next to the historic Penasquitos Ranch House. This ride is AHA sanctioned with Sweepstakes points for the Open (30-35 mile) division.

For more information: http://natrc2. org/First% 20of%20Spring% 20Entry%202008. pdf or go to NATRC@.org and click on “First of Spring” on the left hand side.

That's what I was wondering. I haven't gone to their website yet, but maybe it would shed a little light on their exact route. I wouldn't be at all surprised if it did.

I think you guys will be fine b/c you're starting at dawn.

That's what happens when you try and multi-task. I'm really bad at work with the dual monitor set up.

Yeah, I was out there today, tons of horses around. If you stayed off the main drag it wasn't to bad.

There seemed to also be a little disinformation going around. I had some people come up and tell me that the trails were closed. I politely told them that I had just came that way an hour earlier and saw no such closure.

Some kids on bikes also said that some people told them that the trails were closed. WTF was that about.

I am not anti-horse by any means, but if you have to pick up after your dog how come you dont have to pick up after your horse?

Just proves that mountain biking is better for the environment (and the trails). When I first started biking years ago I took both wheels off my rockhopper and removed the seat post and stuffed it into the trunk of my Sentra. If I want to cut down wind resistance and improve my MPG today I can always go back to that approach. Try stuffing your equine in your trunk...

OOops! I mean t "try it" in the sense that it doesn't work. Not "try it" in the sense that it should be tried, as in "try it, you'll like it." I don't want to upset equines or their friends.
