Default Cruisin' La Costa

We have been hearing a lot of talk about La Costa lately so we decided to check it out. When I woke up this morning and saw the drizzle going on I was a little worried, but the trail was in great shape and the rain stopped before we left the house, the trail itself wasn't even damp, the flora on the other hand was soaked. It was funny riding a dry trail and being soaked and covered in mud. The riding in La Costa was awesome, truly an example for all urban riding areas. The trails were challenging and well built, my hats off to the trail crew. Enjoy some pics from today. Later!

La Costa is a blast. Hats off to the people maintaining & building of the trails.

That place utilizies what space they have available very well. Even though the riding area is small in terms of available trails, it packs a ton of fun.

Great time though with Took & Darryl like always. Look forward to visiting there again in the future.

SDMBABoard member Rich Julian is the one responsible for the design of the trails in La Costa, Rich and Bill AKA mountainbikebill are currently working on a connector trail from La Costa to the San Dieguito River Park, you can read more about “The Islands Project” on mountainbikebills website http://www.mountainbikebill.com/blog/?page_id=38

Nice RR. Does anyone have the .GPX file for that ride or have it posted on Geoladders, etc. I have a good friend in Carlsbad who I have been wanting to go for a ride with...this looks promising.

Also, what does Greg have packed in that huge backpack that keeps him from being able to fit his pump in there???

As you go down VDM, it is right after the signed, "hard" option going uphill and to the left, which is a small rock ledge. Look to your left again right after the drop and there it is. It took me a few times before I saw it as I was focused on the negotiating the smaller rock pile on the trail itself. It looks like a wall, not something you ride, which is its beauty.

From what I've read, though you probably are going so fast you did not even see it

1trackmind we didn't bring a GPS.

We just went on http://www.mountainbikebill.com/LaCosta.htm webiste & downloaded the Google Earth KML map.

Fun place for sure, definitely worth checking out if your in the area or for any SD peeps wanting to try something new.

The pump is an inside joke, the guys I ride with say the CO2 is the 21st century & a pump is so 1999. So I left the pump & bottle holder on there

I knew there had to be a reason...

Where do you live in Bonita? Lived there back in the mid eighties. Acacia Dr. off of Bonita Rd accross from The Chula Vista GC. Went to Bonita Vista Jr High. That place has changed sooo much...wow.

Southbay still has a ton of trails though. I think this area has one of the most trails in the county mileage wise, meaning there are endless trails down here still.

Switchback trail does sap up the energy going up it several times. Go early if going on the weekends, before the walkers & joggers get out there.
