Default Bellflower BMX action

CB has been bitten by the BMX bug! We went out last night to the Bellflower BMX track so she could try out her new cruiser and I could amuse myself taking photos.

A few non-CB shots:

There were a few guys on 26ers out there too:

It's in the rules that you need them, but based on what I saw last night, it's not really enforced.

Carla has them on her bike. The tt pad is very minimal. Nothing like the big foam TT pads we used to have when I was a kid.

No. As of 2007 the ABA changed its rules. Pads on the TT, stem, or handlebar are no longer required.

Great photos!
And nice Redline CB - that bike is really hot!

I was there last night with my two kids and wife(he is in the background of the 4th picture) and introduced myself to Carla.

The wife had a ton of a fun, way more than she thought she would.

Did you happen to get any pictures of the super tall guy on the gold 26"?

I really wish those guys on the MTB's would stick around to race.

Nice picture taking...though I'm a tad biased.

We had a good time. All ages and bike sizes were there, it was nice to see! Just goes to show that anybody can be out there.

It was nice meeting fellow STR member Nagaredama and wife/kids! I'm glad your wife had a good time her first time out there.

The Bellflower track seemed a lot more relaxed; there were more pros there and not as many people in general. Maybe because it was a Monday night, I don't know. I got the feeling over at the Orange Y that the rules would be more strictly enforced.

From my understanding the ABA repealed the pad rule. Both Bellflower and Simi don't seem to care. You're supposed to wear long pants but I've always worn shorts with shin guards(when on flats) or knee pads(when clipped in) and have never been asked to change.

A lot of pros practice at Bellflower on Saturday mornings and I've never seen any of them with pads on their bikes. That includes the 2006 UCI World Champ.

Sounds like Orange Y BMX track are stricter in enforcing the rules than at Bellflower - I had two friends that told me that the Orange Y asked them to leave when they showed up on the track in shorts.

Good to know! I normally bring a pair of pants just in case.

I would think shinguards would offer more protection than pants. Guess the ABA doesn't think so.

I'd like to be able to wear shorts with knee & shin guards, with summer fast on the way!
