Surf 'n' Trail Rat

As i'm planning to do my first San Gabs ride in the near future, it seems like a good idea to get some practice on my local trails. And since I haven't yet made any effort to find others to ride with, these rides are usually solo.
After the grind up Water Tank and a cruise up Bommer Ridge, I hit Missing Link and took a breather at the lookout (the bike and Camelbak needed a rest, but not me ) and came across another rider who'd come up from Morro Ridge. Next, down ML to Fenceline and back to Bommer... all the way to the junction with Laguna Ridge (aka...). I hadn't ridden this trail since on my old Klein HT, and was curious to see how it would be on the Yeti. Big difference . For me, the trail is pretty challenging... some technical/steep sections, but what made it hard was a lot of loose dirt. Too much braking and i'd lock-up and slide, too little and my speed would become hard to control. I made it down without crashing... dabbed/tripoded a few times and walked a couple of short sections. Can't wait to do it again! ![]() By-the-way Nam, if you tell me you can clean it on your rigid SS, I ask you to accompany me so I can view your technique first-hand! (and if you do it, free beer on me... and I don't even drink!)Photos: 1) Bommer Ridge 2) Bike resting 3) Wildflowers on Fencline 4) Laguna Ridge beckons (for CalEpic & Singletrack)

me and a few buddies hit lcwp on sunday, rode up some fireroad, hit fenceline, missing link, and then laguna ridge.
that is seriously one of my favorite trails now. crazy rutted up top, smooth, steep, flowy and fast in the middle, and tight and techy at the bottom. it was my second time. lurrve it. |

The middle and lower sections are, in my opinion, much better than that rutted mess of an intro. It sounds like you did alright(you survived
)- once you know the trail you'll be schooling me on your '08. The Santa Anas are better practice... technical singletrack sans exposure. Where are you planning to ride in the Gabs? |
