Gallup can also be a great break for those heading to Albuquerque, Santa Fe, Taos, or points north/beyond. Sometime I may organize a New Mexico mountain bike tour to include Sandia mountains in ABQ, Pajarito freeride park in Los Alamos, Winsor trail in Santa Fe, South Boundry trail in Taos, and Angel Fire ski area just to name a few.

Ah, Winsor. My wife and I got scary lost there back in October 2005. Rode up and over Chamisa, up Winsor to its upper reaches above the ski area, and back down Winsor. Decided to explore a bit and return via the Burn and Juan trails. I know that we started out on the Burn trail, but after climbing to a saddle, it got very confusing. Ended up following a quickly disappearing trail into the bottom of a canyon during a building thunderstorm. This trail lead to a maze of little used trails. It was late afternoon and we were feeling very lost. Thankfully we were able to stay calm and finally retrace our route out of the canyon (a 1,500 ft. hike-a-bike). Made it back to Winsor and rode out to the bottom trailhead, which seemed like a better option than returning via Chamisa. When we reached the bottom of Winsor, a friendly local offered us a ride back to the Chamisa trailhead. That saved us about 8 miles of pavement in the pouring rain. Sure was nice to get back to our hotel after being fairly convinced that we were going to spend the night in the woods. Woke up the next morning to snow on the local mountains - killed our plans to ride South Boundary that day.

Very nice thanks for the Passion Hit.

I have heard that they have been doing some trail work aroud Gallup. Every once in awhile I wander over to New Mexico from Arizona. I have friends in Albuquerque and have rode the Sandias, Otero, and Tunnel Trails. It is hard to get me out that far when there is so much in AZ I have not rode.

Thumbs up

Man, I'd been thinking about heading there since I read the stories in Bike and Dirt Rag.
I think your RR just pushed me over the edge!

Steppie, I believe the correct use according to international Dan Patrick rules would be something like "Thanks for filling the Passion Bucket."
