Default Snake time

Came across this lil guy at Riley Park on Sunday, with my 9 year old daughter. She was out in front on the Mule Deer ST finish and didn't see him...I yelled out "Delaney stop!" and she hit the brakes about a foot before running it over. Anyway glad it wasn't a rattler and she was pretty stoked to get to hold it before letting him go on his way. Keeps ya on your toes!

Good to see your kid is excited about snakes. Respect them and there's no need to fear them.

saw a rattler and a much more tame looking snake at lcwp on sunday. first time ever seeing a snake on the trail.

the rattler shot into a bush and coiled up (eep) when we approached, but the other snake was just chilling (or sunning i guess) somewhere along bommer ridge. totally blocking about a third of the fire road.

I hate snakes and apparently the funniest thing is world is watching me scream "Snakkkkeeeee" like a little girl.

I seriously lock up when I see a snake and the weird thing is the smaller they are the worse I am. I am fine with big boas, but I will almost pass out at the sight of a little rattle snake.

We did the "hidden trails of Chiquita" again today, and Elaine, our master snake charmer, pulled two medium sized King snakes out of the bushes and proudly displayed them for the other ladies! They are out there definately!

There were 2 dead snakes on the pavement climb at Noble over the weekend.

Jen almost ran over a little baby live one (didn't appear to be a rattler, but it was all coiled up).

That could have very well been a baby rattler. They don't get rattles until they molt their skin. I haven't ever seen a gopher snake coiled up but I could be wrong. Be very careful of juvenile rattlers. They inject more venom than adults.

On Friday we were riding up in Anaheim Hills and saw a King snake. About 2 minutes later we ran into this rattlesnake. He was just hanging out.

Man when I was in the corps I was kinda bit by a baby rattler. We were doing Land Navigation and I was looking at my compass,so I did not see the snake.I feel a thud on the back of my combat boot and see it is a baby rattler. My boot was soaked with venom.luckily the bite did not penetrate my boot.

i saw 2 rattlesnakes at el moro yesterday. both were just hanging out right in the middle of the trail. one was on i think i can and the other was at the top gate of deer canyon. i almost ran over the one on i think i can. i was huffing and puffing my way to the top on my single speed when i looked down and there it was. my tire was about 2 inches from it's head. scared the sh!t out of me. i moved fast to get away from it. it never moved. stayed right there.

Hello everyone, I am new to the trails and I have already seen 3 snakes at Peters Canyon. The first one I seen was a rattle snake which i almost ran over but he slither into the bushes. The 2nd was last Thursday as I was taking a hike up the hills with my cousin, it rattled at us and we just turned and headed back down. The 3rd one was today, it was crossing to the other side of the trail.

After seeing 3 snakes in such a short period of time I am afraid to go back out to Peters Canyon. I get off work at 3pm when its pretty hot. I feel safer if there were more riders or people running but they are probably still at work. I wish I can go later around 5 or 6 but I have school.

Are my chances of seeing a snake in the evening slimmer? or when there are more people around? Should I even worry and just continue to bike? I have no idea what to do because I am paranoid after hearing that rattle.

Edit: What type of Rattle Snake am I seeing? I just want to read more about them.

Default Aliso Woods Snake

I saw this rattler on Friday 3/21 on the main trail -Wood Canyon-right before the coyote turnoff at 2:30. It had no intention of moving, and looked as if it had just eaten a big lunch. Another rider encouraged it to go back into the bushes by kicking sand towards it- he claimed that is how to get them off the trail as opposed to guiding them with a stick- less chance of being bitten.
