Default Vision Quest & Counting Coup

The online registration is now up on the Warriors Society Web-Site.

If you are planning on doing the VQ or the CC, you should sign up early so you don't get left out.

So who's planning on doing the event?

Someone--or something--just invaded my brain and convinced me to sign-up for CC...

I figure I'd regret not even trying it more than I would regret a poor performance.

When the event came around last year I wished I had signed up for it...let's hope I feel the same way this time around! [-o<

Let the training begin!

A campsite at O'Neill sounds like a solid idea. How do you go about reserving/claiming one? Maybe we can split a site or something if it makes things cheaper and/or easier?

I signed up for the 5AM start, so I'd rather be as close as possible that early in the morn.

So did I, I figure an extra hour would be good... you know incase of falls, mechanical stuff. About the campsite I think the Warriors Society is reserving sites for racers. Also we need to figure out a ride to the starting line since the early starts have no shuttle. Telex?? are you doing VQ or CC??

...uhh, hopefully it's not too weird to suggest sharing a campsite with a relative stranger???

If I'm able to start riding more than twice a week I'd like to try the CC. Even that is 44 miles and a lot of climbing, but seems doable as long as you are in good shape. There will be 2 fun downhill singletracks (Motorway and HJ), might be worth a try

Looks like SJC has quite a strong representation.

I'm signed up for the VQ. I did the CC last year and it went pretty well. But making the second cutoff will be a definite challenge unless I do the early start. My goal now is to do the normal start. See how my times shape up in training.

One thing that helped me last year was to mix in a lot of road riding, which I did on my MTB on the San Gabriel River trail. I did 5 hour rides with minimal rest, which is about what it took me to do the climbing on the CC.

Early start, eh? How did you get to the trailhead/staging area? It doesn't look like the WS offers transport from O'neil to the starting spot for the early starters?

I hear ya on the road rides. I ventured to the dark-side this past year while in tejas. Work and the stress of being away from home meant I HAD to ride for my health and sanity. But with only one local mtb spot that was a swamp for months due to rain, the only alternative was the way of the skinny-tire . I like to think of it as the ying to the MTB yang. Each one makes me appreciate aspects of the other...And in a state where the vast majority of the land is privately-owned and inaccessible, there was something cool about never being more than a 15 min pedal to long, isolated farm roads where you could go and go and go. Not to mention that it helped me stay sane, loose 15 pounds, and improve my mtb skillz!

And SJC folks did come out of the woodwork for this one...

I'm Singlespeeding it also. I just have not decided what kind of SS yet. I'm in the process of building up aand adding a rigid SS and a F/S SS to my collection.

I'm leaning towards the F/S SS for this event. I should have it ready for it's maiden voyage in a couple of weeks.

Some of the wisest words I have ever heard came from a good buddy of mine riding a rigid SS in some raunchy singletrack.

JamR,

FS/SS? Do I sense Kona A or this going to be one of those old URT designs. I'm curious to see how you're going to solve the chain-growth issue with FS/SS.

Is anyone riding Blackstar this weekend? I'd like to ride part of the counting coup and start training.
