I'm doing VQ for the fisrt time. Will be the longest and most elevation gain in one ride for me ever! Primary goal is to complete.

I'm in for VQ. Did CC last year, so it's onward and upward! Not planning to set any records- just trying for a finish. Planning the early start (5:00 am!).

We can drive up early in my truck or something, that might be cool to do. I'll be the STR "support-truck".

Default VQ and CC ... what bike will you be using?

Hey Guys,

I have not posted here for a while... and with VQ and CC coming up I figured this would be a good time. It's getting down to the wire with less then 2 weeks left!

So just curious how everyone is doing with there training and what bike's people are going to use. I was going to ride my Kona Coiler but Im not sure I want to lug 38 pounds for 44 miles... so im riding my much lighter 24 pound soft tail. ;-)

Anyhow... so what is everyone else riding?

I rebuilt my Chameleon up at just around 26 lbs. Yeah, my back won't be as happy, but the 36 lbs. Heckler is waaaaaaay too much for VQ.

Thanks Matt! Very cool article. I used to wonder what the feathers on Matt's (ocrider) camelbak were and he told me one day. IMO to finish either one is a great accomplishment. Hats off to those who are attempting it this year. Hopefully one year I might grow the pelotas to train my ass off and enter.

After todays ride I went up to Switchback to pick up my resgistration stuff. I am lucky number 313!

Apparently there was a raffle and I won a nice pair of Giant Winter Chill Gloves

Yup, several of my friends are also doing this event for the first time like myself. We're starting at 5am also. See you at the start! BTW, I did this ride last week and started at 5am, it's very dark until about 6am so we will bring our lights. We're spec'ing out some lights that I will try at Fullerton loop tonight. A $27 serfas light from Switchback. There is no way I want to carry my HID battery for the duration of the course!
