Default white mountain peak ride

Seeing if anybody might be up for this one with me. Gonna be climbing to the top of white mountain peak (14,282) From Laws railroad museun in Bishop (aprox 4000 feet. Should be a nice tough one. I've been to the top before but not this way. I'd like to do it the first weekend in August and maybe hit up the lower rock trail on Sunday before heading home. Anybody interested?

did it in '90 back when Rick Wheeler offered it as a supported ride. Pretty rough; maybe 60% drop-out rate, plus the another large % left their bikes and hiked the last 500- 750' of elevation gain. Cheatin, sez me. I was one of the last to the top, so 12 hours up (tho that includes the detour the route took to the Bristlecone Forest..). But I was slow then, slow now....

Once is likely enuff for me

I've been wanting to do this for a while now, though i was looking at climbing it from Westgard pass. Are you talking about climbing the nasty old jeep road that heads up from Laws? That sounds pretty damn hard core...
I'll keep it on the radar though - i'd be willing we could get a few people together for it, maybe on a mammoth weekend or something.

I've played in Honkeytonks in LonePine and looked at the White mountains and have had NO urge to go up there. Looks totally desolate!

Yes sir. Up the jeep road from Silver canyon. I;ve done it from westguard pass before starting neat patriarch grove. It was fun but tough. There is a killer singletrack descending down near silver canyon that is long and supposed to be rideable. It shows up on my topo maps. I may give it a shot on the way down. Gonna be a long day in the saddle.

ted, there is a classic loop ride up there. goes north, then drops east, south an back to the car. starts at on the main rode near 10K (crooke rek research station), up to 11.5k, turn right on old jeep road into pine trees, down into meadows, more pine trees. .... singletrack to dirt road... so magic can be found in the whites

Interested, but I'll have to check my schedule as the time approaches. I wouldn't know until July. Let me know..

Desolation has its own beauty.

I rode from the upper gate in 1991. Hauled my 8-year old son on the bike rack. (*)

I've been back several times since. Singlespeed link.

We looked at the jeep road. So steep it's one-way on the maps. I'll have to practice riding SS up 25% slopes. We'll see how the year goes.

Nice work on the ss. That's a tough climb either way. The fire road up siver canyon is very steep but do able with low enough gearing. That weather hut on top is neat. When I was last up there I saw a glider come out from over the desert and buzz right over the top of the peak. it was intense!
