Default Mt. Pacifico Fire Road from Mt. Hillyer Now Open

The Mt. Pacifico Fire Road which is accessed from near Mt. Hillyer is now open. Rains had washed it out several years ago rendering it impassible.

For those of you who dig the Middle San Gabriel’s know Mt. Pacifico is a very aesthetic place. This road also accesses some pretty cool trails (for, er.. hiking).

Other FYI- much of Chilao/ Hillyer single-track still mostly under a blanket of snow. I tried to ride one pretty cool trail and was hiking over snow more than I was riding much of the time. Be another month before it mostly melts out, I bet….

Thank you for the report there is a trial up there on my short list to ride when the snow clears.

Are you sure it is open? I received an e mail from the Forest Service stating it would be open in early April.

It is not inconceivable that the FS has some reason for keeping people off it for another month. Safety evaluation or sumsuch. So I cannot say it is is *officially* open.

But it re-built. And passable.

Well it will be officially open in just a few weeks anyway. Not many people riding up there now anyway. Got to wait for the snow to melt
