Default Ever heard of horse flats?

So this is my first post here be easy

So anyone here ever been rock climbing? That was my sport but lately I have gotten into mt biking and fixing up my SS.

So I always saw mt bikers cruise by whenever I would be climbing up at horse flats. I don't know the name of the mt bike trail up there but it is up the 2 freeway. (angelest crest freeway)

Anyone ever heard of it? I am going to be in town from march 15-22 and plan on doing some mt biking so if you want to hit it up or give me advice on a better spot i live in La Canada, by pasadena and glendale and all that goodness.

thanks guys! hope to go biking with ya!

That my friend is called Chilao. My favorite trail up there. I love watching the rock climbers as they like watching us.

Yeah, Horse Flats is in the general Chilao/Mt. Hillier area. Usually, we pass through it as we drop down from right before hitting Silver Moc.

Lots of great rides to be had in your area. The most common one being by JPL. Not sure how much (if any) snow is still up there. You might want to check with the US Forestry first.

Good luck!

Edit: Ha, looks like Big Mike and I were posting about the same time with same info.

Yep, park at Chilao or right in the turnout before the campground, then head off in the opposite direction taking a short singletrack section to the fireroad then riding up and coming back down to horse flats. Then you have options. Climb up a little more and descend back down on the Silver Moccasin Trail, which is one of the best in the San Gabes. Now you got me jonesing for a Chilao ride!

We've got a ride going off at Marshall Cyn on the 22nd. Why don't you come out there and meet some of the group. It's listed as a newbie ride, but all levels show up, we just make sure the newbs have a good time.

under no circumstances should you follow this man's directions, especially at Chilao.

You're new here, so I'm just looking out for you.

Ah yes, the good old tramway...even with heading up there to climb, i've always thought that the san jacinto trail would be a fun ride. I'm pretty sure it's closed to bikes...anybody happen to know for certain just to satisfy my curiosity?
Black mountain's definitely got some sick hard stuff to play on too...just thinking about it makes me miss climbing.
V10 is easy? Damn, you pull pretty hard...

lol back in the day when i was competing v10 was easy buuuut now i just love to climb outdoors and feel good movement ya know. just the flow of body positions and technical moves are always good times.

slack lining has really been my passion lately. surfing it, 180's 360's you name it. cant wait to set one up under the manhattan pier over the ocean during spring break!

so why not follow that guys directions at Chilao? a steep climb?

I don't have personal experience with this, but apparently Mike (Pain Freak) gets lost quite a bit...

If you have a Garmin GPS, you'll be fine. Chilao's figure 8 is best done with someone who knows the trails in the area. a few left & rights & you can get all spun around. or maybe not!

Ya dig & here wat i'm sayin', dog?
