Default Poison Oak on Trabuco/West Horsethief?

I'm doing a trail running race on that area on Saturday.
How is the Poison Oak situation?
Maybe some of the Vision Questers can give me an update of the trail conditions. I know that you had plenty of time to look around while pushing your bike up WHT...
By the way, congrats to all VQ finishers.
Thanks

If the PO has been growing like the rest of the vegitation as of late, there should be "Ooze Reports" around Wednesday or so.

There is PO all over the place. Just stay on the trail and try to keep away from the greenery

Seriously, it's all over due to the amount of water we've gotten! I showered with Technu wash, but it'll be another 12-24 hours before I'll feel confident I didn't get any!

If do not already use the stuff - At the first sign of any itching, put some Zanfel on, stuff works really well. Well worth the $$ you pay.

Yeah, +1 for the Tecnu shower, too.

I did notice a patch right next to the gate at the end of Trabuco (where you have to lift your bike over). It was under the tree, right there.

Thanks.
I'll have to remember to pack the Technu in my bag!

Forget all of that expensive stuff. Just use Nonoxynol-9 (ie, spermicide) and soap (preferably a no-tears type baby soap) and any urushiol will be removed.

Here is the patent for Zanfel.

Haven't tried that yet. Where is the cheapest place to buy it?

No signs yet, but I'm not considering myself in the clear either!

It's not cheap, usually between 30 and 30 dollars but there are generics being produced in pharmacies. I was at Rite Aid and saw a Zanfel generic for $26.00. Not bad, considering. You could probably find it cheaper online as I haven't really checked.
FYI, once you're really infected, even Zanfel is worthless. I got it about 3 weeks ago and the only thing that helped was Medrol Pak (steroids), which are presciption. Of course it didn't help that I landed a belly flop right in a bed of it but that's my problem and stupidity. Does quite a number on your skin as it kills your skin cells. Really sexy, actually.

Sweet, so my left fore arm should be nice an exfoliated then

Yeah, if I wind up getting it bad I'll go to the doc for sure! I'm keeping my fingers crossed that I somehow averted it this time out, but we waded through all the creeks and I know when I yielded the trail to finishers coming down Trabuco as I was on my way up to WHT I probably stood in some. Hopefully it only got on my socks!

allison, water actually helps prevent irritation of the skin by poison oak. it can inactivate and remove the urushiol if the water gets on the contact area soon. it's not a cure, but it may have actually helped you.

Seriously. Pay $30 for Zanfel, or DIY for a few bucks worth of nonoxynol-9 and some soap. It's not even a choice for me.

So exactly how did someone figure out that rubbing spermicide all over your arms and legs and rolling around in Poison Oak got ride of the stuff.

Chemistry is sweet like that. You don't have to experiment on yourself when you understand how molecules interact.

Nonoxynol-9 is not just a spermicide. It is a widely used surfactant common in household items. You may see it in cosmetics, shampoo, soap, cleaners, etc as:

PEG-9 Nonyl phenyl ether
Polyethylene glycol 450 nonyl phenyl ether
Polyoxyethylene nonyl phenyl ether

Maybe it was a chemist who prostitutes outdoors on the weekends?

Why limit it just to weekends? This chemist loves the outdoors on weekdays too.

Burner, how much PO are you planning on rolling in? I think it goes a long way...
