Default I got lucky today!

I was just starting my usual el P loop this Sunday AM around 10:30. Just below the little wooden bridge, on the way up to Brown Mtn. a bobcat crossed the road! He was about 20 ft away and sort of sauntered down off the hillside, trotted across in front of me and hopped down into the creek-bed. I was stoked! This is a couple' weeks after the guy posted that pic of a cougar under the cement bridge. The cats are out and about! Wish I was quicker with the camera.

You were quick enough to take a pic of that bike resting against that bench.

Today I didn't do anything quick. I had a great time just sort of poking around. Guess that turning 50 stuff has something to do with it!

Tell me about it!

But I did ride with two guys over 65 today and we kicked butt together, but I have to admit they still even beat me to the top. Something to look foward to, maybe?

Cool, I was almost unlucky one day coming down maple springs at a good clip. Came around a corner and almost nailed a 4-5 point Buck. I would have lost had It not taken off so fast.

What was amazing was the amount of traffic up there at that time. Sunday morn, after rain, the place was crawling with hikers and bikers. The cat was so close to "civilization" and not that concerned about me.

Neither are Ventanas, Sevens or Yetis. They just sort of sit there until you RIDE them.

I also saw a bobcat about a month ago while climbing Brown Mtn. Came around a corner about half a mile from the upper saddle and there was the cat, calmly walking up the road about 30 yards ahead of me. He must have known I was there, but didn't seem to care. After about 20 seconds, he darted into the bushes. Pretty cool thing to see so close to home.

I should have called you. I did the same loop today although no unusual animal sightings today. I will say that I observed some very unusual behavior today though, almost ever MTB rider I came across gave me the stink eye when I said hi. Weirdly almost every hiker and runner said "whats up?"

I did however meet a guy named Mike at the top riding a Specialized all mountain model. Said he's been out of the sport for 8 years and used to ride DH. It was his second ride on the new bike. He didn't really know where he was going as he was from Valencia but heard a lot about EP. I was more than happy to show him.

I thought I would be waiting around every corner but this guy stayed on my 6 the entire way. He has never heard or STR but I told him he should definitely check this site out. He was a nice guy with no ego. Would make a nice addition to the clan.

I guess I missed you up there by about an hour, give or take a few hours. I was coming down EP around 11'ish. There was a group of hikers (about 10) gathered at that very bench on EP. Maybe Bobby was on the prowl for them.

Default Ok, Thinking back...

... what I saw had a really long tail, so no bobcat. It wasn't very big, I'd say 30 lbs, striped tail w/ big white tip. No spots. Must have been a juvenile cougar!
