Default Chantry Flats - San Gabriels

What a great ride. A total of 11 riders showed up...it was nice meeting Christian, Ken, and Kevin for the first time and great seeing the rest of you mofos (and June) again...always a blast. Just as my past few rides, the conditions where perfect. A little mist and fog and a bit cold but not too bad. The weather we've been getting lately seems to be helping every single trail with scenery and conditions. It seems every ride we do lately its been nothing but fun...While most of the group continued to Zion, June, John and I cut the ride short and went down through Hoegee's camb as I had plans with the family and it wasn't my weekend to ride anyway. Here are some of the pics I took
at the lot

ferns all over...Raul and Christian taking the lead

Tris on the chase

Ken

what happens when Tris marks his territory...

Group shot before the group separated

Off they go to Zion

Off I go to the bottom...June and John ended up cutting it short as well.

After the ride, my wife Adrienne and I took the kids (Sophia 10 months and Christian 3 years) to the aquarium in Long Beach, whicn included a boat tour of the harbor...had an awesome time

Great day all around

Very nice. Thanks for posting! Next time you ride up there, don't be shy and sent me a PM for a ride invite.

Beautiful day today to ride. I was short on time (dropped off my son @ church @ Lake Ave. @ 9 & p/u by 11:30) so I shot over to Brown and rode to the top and back down through EP. They graded the fire road on Thursday but due to the drizzle rain we got yesterday, you could hardly tell. It was packed down nice and was very tacky.

I couldn't believe it. I saw 4 (FOUR!) riders today without helmets. What the Eff!!!
The one rider, I passed on the climb near the top and when he arrived, I asked him where his helmet was. His response was that he left it in the car and was not planning on doing EP and was cruising back down the FR instead. I explained to him that it doesn't take a lot for a head trauma and for his own safety, to always wear a helmet in the future. I think he was embarrassed more then anything but it agreed it wasn't the smartest thing to do. Duh!

Anyways, yeah, please hit me up next time. I'll try and not slow you guys down too much.

Most likely newbies, I remember when I used to do that (once at Chantry and at El Prieto) when I first started riding because I thought I was too cool to wear a helmet. Didn't take long to realize what an idiot I was Glad you pointed it out to them. I hope he'll think twice about it before he goes out riding again without his helmet.
I took my cousin (newbie) to Monroe Truck Trail a couple weeks ago and when we got to the trail head I asked him where his helmet was. His response was that he didn't need one...I made him wait at the trail while I drove back to my house to get him one. Needless to say, his wife let him have it when she found out about it. He was pretty embarrased as well...
I'll see if I can ride again this coming weekend and let you know. No worries about slowing us down

The good thing is that time is changing again and I'll be able book a ride during the week after work...most likely a brown/El P loop...I'll let you know as well...Vic

I'd look for the next STR ride out in this area and join - you won't be disappointed.
I posted the ride late on Friday...a little too late for anyone to join.

No Ricardo, but I do see Bernie. And where the hell is Henry? He's going to be so fat from sitting around home drinking beer all day that we are going to have to send a chase bike out front and behind with a flashing light and a sign saying, "Wide Load". We need to set up an intervention for this dood.

I've been training hard for my doubles, so not much mountain lately. Mostly just Thursday night loops. Whats up for next weekend? It is you weekend to ride isn't it?

This was a bonus weekend, so indeed, next weekend is MY weekend to ride. Especially if you're able to ride...

I'm tempted to join you but I think it'll be a little way too overgrown now to enjoy the ride. I may just join you for the trailwork day.

Sweet photos.

Upper Winter Creek to Lower Winter Creek/ Hoegees and up over Zion are my favorite trails in the whole world. I have visions of riding them 1000 ++ of times into my 80's (so 30 years from now....)

40 times a year gets me to 1000 in 25 yrs?
