Default Santa Rosa Plateau Loop

First and foremost, my helmet is tipped to Blue Rat for showing the way! Thanks for showing us the parking areas, technical areas, climbs, and just about everything else! Thanks to SurlyGal, TKBlazer, mtnbkdavid, and rafiki for coming out as well. A huge plus? for Blue Rat's and rafiki's military service!!

After a few chats, this looks to be the place for the next newbie ride planned for possibly around April due to STR, races, and Adrenaline events. The official thread is here: **Official Newbie Ride Event Thread** There is a great combination of loops, single tracks, climbs, and technical areas which will challenge newbies but it certainly won't bore them! I still need to make a few phone calls to see if BBQs are allowed in the area. I didn't get as many photos due to the lack of a proper camera pouch. TKBlazer also has additional photos so post them up on this RR

Stuck here for about 15mins along the Ortega Highway...

Still waiting...cold...falling asleep...zoning out

Wait a minute...TKBlazer's 29er!!!

Great photo's, Santa Rosa is a great place to ride, its not super difficult but does have a little of everything. I've spent 45 minutes all the way up to 2 hours just cruisin' through there. And throw in Slaughterhouse and you can have a great couple of hours of mountainbiking.

On a quick side note, anyone that rides out there regularly know if Superman still goes through? I havn't ridden that in nearly 10 years.

Thumbs up

Great Morning, Great Weather, Great People!

For being off the bike for 4 months this was the perfect ride. A little of everything, short climbs, flowing single track and really cool people.Today was my 1st *real* ride out on my New SS(old/never ridden) and it was a blast, after making a few adjustments things really clicked and I had FUN!

Great meeting everyone today - Bluerat thanks for showing us the way and Ken thanks for posting the ride. This will be a regular route for me.

Thanks for making it out today Guys! Your patience and willingness to keep it mellow really helped me out - I really needed to be back out on my bike and I couldn't think of a better group to have done it with.

great ride guys! First off a huge kudos goes out to Scott/Blue Rat for showing us OC folks SRP... i must say that the scenery was awesome and the conditions made it seem very surreal. Riding through meadows and stuff is pretty damn cool i think and the fact that the entire trail is rigid bike friendly was a plus.

Ken and Traci, you guys kicked some butt today was cool to see you guys charging the hills and even tho there were problems with line selection, the wet gravel didn't really do you any favors. I wouldn't mind exploring some more around there in the future though.

at the start, Scott chats with Eric and Traci

David JRA

Traci cresting a hill

Ken railin it

our ride leader for the day

damn you ken, but since the cat is out of the freakin bag....

Surlygal,

Mom my told me about this ride, you look like you are having fun. Hope to ride with you soon. My mom couldn't go she had to drop me off at San Clemente for a ride and then do stuff with my sister.

It was great meeting you guys and also my pleasure to show some of the trails at SRP.

If I'm available for your newbie ride, I'd love to help out.

Glad you guys had a great ride! I hope to join an SCTR ride at SRP in the future. Did you guys make it out to Harold Davis Hill at the northwest boundary? The sign was placed there by 24-hr race teammates of his. He was an avid biker and friend who succumbed to cancer several years ago at the age of 38...he'd be happy to know people are still crankin' that hill (...I haven't made it clean yet). Anyhow, for those new to SRP, the spring wildflower displays are spectacular there. There are some trails in the south part (but no bikes allowed) that lead to boardwalks over vernal pools. Should be great this year. Unfortunately, I don't think there's any picnic areas or provisions for BBQ gatherings, but you could contact someone via the links below. And I can't think of such a place nearby, but someone who lives closer might know.
