Nice detailed and very well composed ride report. Lucky for me, I've never encountered this particular old guy but have encountered other similar fossils. No justification but you can only imagine why they have become so hardened over the years. I think a few bad mtb encounters have left some very jaded and weary. Too bad for the majority rest of us who are courteous and considerate riders and trail users. Same ol' song, unfortunately.
Thanks for posting!

Was riding out after doing a near-dusk Upper Winter Creek to Hogee's/ Lower Winter Creek + Sturt Falls. . .. talkin' to the caretakers who run the Sturtevant Camp... described the crabby old man... they said his name is RAY
so next time you see this sour fossil, shower him with smiles and "Hi Ray!!!!" p.s kinda bummer Lower Winter Creek stream crossings a bit more epic after the rains (vs. 7 outta 10 being rideable this fall.... |

I imagine he'll blow yet another gasket if all the mountain bikers start greeting him by name.
"Hey Ray, so good to see you on the trail today. Hope things are going your way!" ![]()
