Default Sedona Must-do Trails?

I'm planning on heading out to Sedona next month for three or four days of R&R. I was there once a few years back, did a quick hike, and then had to hit the road again. I promised myself I'd be back.

So, what trails or trail systems are recommended? My tech skills are OK, not great, and I'm more of an XC guy who likes long rides. I like the rocks and rocky climbs, so figure that into the mix. No thanks to the extreme stuff or shuttle rides, please.

Oh, I'll more than likely be going by myself. I just got a new fancy GPS and have been trying to find some .gpx files for Sedona trails. No luck! Any of you's got the goods? Thx

if you do a search for Sedona on here, you'll see 7+ days of RR's from a trip a few of us took out there over new years.

You could ride the bulk of the good stuff out there in 4 days

some of my fav spots:
templeton/cathedral rock
Llama trail
Chicken pt./Submarine rock
Thunder mtn/Coffee pot

basically, get into town, pull into Bike & Bean and buy a cosmic ray's map of sedona... get on yer bike and start connecting trails.

When Steppie chimes in, the god has spoken.
He lead my gf and I around a fantastic loop in Sedona over Thanksgiving weekend. He knows the good stuff.

Here is the real deal...there is not a bad trail in Sedona...In 3-4 days you should be able to hit everything in town. Navigating Sedona is so easy I have never taken my GPS with me. You are never more than a mile or so away from town.

I have a good map of Sedona that is to big a file to post here. PM me with your e-maill address and I will send it to you.

Yeah, I've seen those posts. It helped to stoke the fire, that is for sure. I just didn't see much in the way of "naming names", as far as the trails were concerned.

Thanks to all for this info posted so far!

Oh, I should of also asked this. Anybody have a particular favorite camping spot?

Most of the camping close to town is in Oak Creek Canyon. Google it and a few should come up. It will be cold this time of the year.

Munds is also excellent. There's a way to shuttle it from the top and link it to Sub Rock/Chicken Point for a nice long mostly DH (nothing overly tech), but it requires a small poach on a hiker-only trail. You could always walk that section, though. Secret Trails is also a very cool area. You can get info on all of these in Cosmic Ray's book.

My favorite Sedona pic. Broken Arrow Trail or the trial out to Submarine Rock.

As long as we're hucking around, this is a fun drop to flat. Just make sure you set your fork at the full travel, and don't leave it at the lowest 100 mm setting from the previous climb.

Make sure you have reservations, as the campgrounds are small, and they'll fill up fast.

When we went over Thanksgiving, we drove on the 89 past town toward the desert, where we found lots of free camping out in the middle of nowhere, but only a few minutes from town (legal with the red pass that you need at the trailheads). We had all the privacy we wanted.

Went there last Oct and rode some nice trails called:

Teacup
Thunder Mountain
Dry Creek
Cockscomb
Mescal Mountain
Deadmans Pass

The last 2 are pretty technical at times. Because of the mountains, its hard to get rellly lost. Get the brown map and ride. I rode with some local hotshots _ Dangerous Dave, Rama - that hang out at Mountain Bike Heavan for one ride, the Mescal Mountain ride.
