Default Chino Hills (sat 2/16)

What a beautiful day and place for a ride! I don't think it could have been any better. Well, another 20 miles would have made it better, but thats another story.

Pretty chilly in the morning when we arrived at green river. Had to what for chew yeti for a bit, he was running late. Once he got there we were off and finally started to get warm! I headed up the first climb and second climb and 3rd climb or so and lost the sho air guy who was just flying. I tried keeping up with him, but it seemed like around ever corner he got a mushroom (you know in mario kart when you get the mushrooms and get a speed boost). So after deciding I didn't want to get lost I waited for the rest of the group. Then I waited some more and decided to head back because I didn't know if they were waiting for me or anything. Turns out someone broke a derailler hanger on the climb. He decided to just head back since it was so early in the ride. He didn't want to have to walk if his chain broke later.

The rest of the ride went off perfectly. It is really green out there this time of the year and it makes the single track so much more fun. You couldn't even tell where the turns up ahead were until you were taking the turn. Me and two others (i forgot their names, but I think one was Red Hawk) took off up the southridge climb a bit early and decided to head up to another single track. Went down that and made it to 4 corners. Brew Master had to head off from there and Chew Yeti and his friend headed back to the cars, but the rest of us (minus the sho air guy, he probably did 2 laps out there by the time we were at 4 corners) headed off on sidewinder up to another trail whose name I forgot. Lots of mud on the little stream crossings.

All in all this ride was a blast. If anyone has not ridden any of those trails yet I suggest you do. I think I ended the day with about 23 miles, about 3600ft of climbing, and a huge smile on my face.

it was a great day to ride and it was really green out. Chewyeti wasn't the one running late, it was me. I forgot his other bike and had to drive back to Pomona to pick it up. But other than starting a little late, great ride, with a great group=a great way to start the weekend. thanks again guys

I'm the mushroom guy. Must have been the joy of riding an Air9 for the first time.

Rolling on 29" dubs!

Default

most people will need a 600cc engine between their legs to keep up with mario

i think i passed by your group around scully ridge/lower aliso. you guys were headed towards rolling ranch/campsite. i was riding a white 29er wearing black and white.

the park looks great right now though...absolutely beautiful! there are some great views from the top of raptor and scully ridges.

my legs are hurting bad today though....too many beers and not enough food last night to do a big ride. hardly drank on the bike, too. recipe for disaster....good thing i was riding solo.

i rode from brea and did northridge,4-corners,raptor,sidewinder to bane ridge st.

then rode to scully and around brush canyon and climbed up southridge to san juan hill.

down bovinian to 4 corners and back up bovinian to southridge to my car.

ugh....35ish miles and maybe 5500ft of gain, little stops. i gotta work a route so i can get some east fenceline too.

mp3 on a air9 huh? ride review please!!!

sorry i didn't get to ride with you guys...maybe next time!!!

cheers...Kam.

Great ride today fellas. We has a good time with riders of varying speeds. I rode over from the Chino Hills side and ran into Mario at the trailhead. We rode together and he decided to hang with us for a bit on his nice Air9. Glad we ran into each other Mario!

The route was meet at the golf course, ride up Skully and across Skully Ridge, through Lower Aliso, across Rolling M ST, up South Ridge to 4 Corners, down Raptor Ridge where Chewyeti, Clayster and I split off. The rest continued up Upper Aliso to Bane Ridge.

Here are few pics I snapped today:

Rick, Jason, Mario

Mario showing the custom blue Air9. Purty.

Chris showing his beautiful new carbon fiber Specialized

Crossing the gate to Skully

Plenty of hiking up the first hill of Skully

The last we saw of Donny before he broke the DR hanger

The view going up Skully

Socializing while mechanicals get worked out

Ken (freekengo)

Some call it overgrown, I call it lush. Chewy owns the climb.

Aaron rockin the single track

Jason on the single track

Some shots from Rolling M

Sean coming down Bovinian

The Clayster is toasted at 4 Corners

Parting ways

Default Why did I have to work!!!!!!!!

Fellas, this looked like a sweet ride up Scully. I did Bane Ridge, Upper Aliso and Sidewinder yesterday and I can't agee more, the park is LUSH right now. Wish I didn't have to work cause I'd been chucking my HT up the hills with you all. I love it.
Anyone up for Scully again on Monday?
PM me, I am riding. Looking to make it all the way up Scully this time without stopping.

Thumbs up

Indeed it was one fine day out on the trails!

I was just really happy to not keep holding up the group that bad.

It took me around 2 hours to tear apart my bike and clean it after the ride.

Some of those creek crossings were getting bad when you're one of the last riders of te group...

It was an absolute pleasure meeting you guys! We'll have to ride again soon!

Gotta get in better shape though. A week off the bike and I'm back to beginner level endurance.

Thanks Sam for setting this ride up!
Oh yeah! Some of you guys missed my backwards air dab into the bushes climbing out of the wash on the aluvial fan single track at the end of the ride! I kicked that sage brush's @ss! Flattened it like a pancake.... I guess it's just what happens when 225lbs of chunk lands on anything from 4 feet up..

Yeah, I got home and spent about an hour cleaning my bike and I think it is cleaner than when the day started. Some water got most the mud off, then a rag finished that job. Put some degreasser on the chain and stuff. Some pedros bike lust and some armor all tire cleaner stuff and i was good to go

I was in the same boat man! My bike definitely looks better than it did before the ride. But I cheated and took apart the bike and used my ultrasonic cleaning tub to get it really clean. The crud that came out of my chain and rear cassette was just downright nasty..... The mud that came off myself in the shower was another site also.

way fun ride today....

I bailed with clayster a bit early, but ended up with 19 miles and i dunno how 2700 feet of climbing (enough to wear out clay LOL)

It was a good wake up ride after not riding in some weeks.

Ended up moving my sister into her house in HB anyway... so i am nice and sore.

Good ride fellas!
