Default RR: My first SART experience..

So I set out today to ride SART from Green River Rd. to the beach. It was a bit windy and a bit cold so changed into more appropriate clothing at the parking lot. With that all settled I hoped on the road bike and off I went. I was pretty nervous as this was going to take me a LONG way from home and into an area that I know nothing about (except where Disneyland is).

The trail was a blast and I felt really strong. Lot's of people on the trail but not all of them were overly friendly. It was a blast to ride past the Honda Center and the Big A. The weather turned a bit icky the closer to the coast I got with the winds picking up to a steady 10ish mph and running straight at me. The temp dropped pretty good with a nice thick marine layer as well. The last 5 miles to the coast seemed to take forever.

The ocean however was a beautiful site. I was just in awe that I had ridden that far and only two hours earlier was standing in Corona. I chatted with a couple of mtn bikers by one of the restrooms, rode out to get as close to the ocean as I could and then turned around and started the ride back.

That headwind rocked as a tail wind and combined with a gel shot I was off to the races. (I did stop to use the RR at that little park about 3 miles from the coast...the one with the funny looking roof on the rr). After that, though, I rocked. I felt strong, happy and just really pushed. I rode a majority of it in the big ring and just felt like I was flying. At hour three I popped another gel and kept a good steady pace all the way back to the car. (I guess those things work pretty well....or was it the tailwind. lol)

I apologize for the lack of pictures but I am really stoked by this ride. The baby sitters reaction to the distance was just as rewarding as finishing the ride as well. So I'm just that much closer to a century and all in all I'm feeling pretty good this evening. The ride took a total of 3 hours and about 45 minutes. It was a good day in the saddle!

Sorry about that guys, did I use the wrong terminology? I think I saw SART somewhere in my research last night and just assumed.

No, it is called the SART. Just a different part of it. A paved part.

I think the final mileage would be 60. 30 out and 30 back according to what I read. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong.

We used to ride that route in high school. We'd meet at the Fullerton Bike Shop ride over to the trail and then down to the beach and back. I remember those headwinds on the way down to the beach. Sometimes it felt like you were barely moving. It was so nice on the way back though.

Nice....

Glad you enjoyed it. You made pretty good time too. Yep, it's 30 both ways.
