Thumbs up First Time To Chino In Years

Since all the regular Path guy's were racing Fontucky today, and Jake was itching to get back out on the trails, we met up with CPATCRASH (aka FIREROADKING), Bloodhead and Tink, and went to Chino hills.

On the way there Jake and I were talking, and the races came up. I asked him if he thought he'd like to go out to Fontucky and give XC racing a shot.
To my surprise he said yes!
So, I told him today should be a good way to check and see how'd he handle going a little faster, with less stop's, than our normal rides.

I haven't been to Chino in years. Last time there was for trail work with SHARE. Back then it was pretty much over grown, with dead brown grass covering the hills.
Not much singletrack to ride then either.

It seem's like not much has changed..........

Right?

Well, still not much singletrack. And found out some of the fun trails we road back then, are now closed to bikes.

The fireroad climbs were good, and plenty. Not too steep, and just long enough to settle into a good spin.

There were a few fun sections of singletrack that flowed pretty good. Just too short and far between. (for me anyways)

But the scenery was out of this world!

Everything was green, and I've got some pictures to prove it!

The first climb...

Here comes Tink

I was actually rolling when I took this picture. Just before I reached the water I thought I'd better put my camera in it's pouch. Going into the water, just as I put my camera away, I got both hands on my bars to ride on through. All of a sudden, my camera comes bouncing down my leg. I was able (lucky) to hit it with my foot, just enough to send it bouncing away from the water.

I got a cool picture of Jake though!

FIREROADKING (aka CPATCRASH) just crusing along.

What? Not enough "hucking" singletrack for you?

Narrow + green = SWEET!

More climbing.....

Jake...

More singletrack

All and all, it was a pretty FUN ride!

Pat's GPS showed we did 15.6 miles with 2255 ft of elevation.

I got to ride with my boy, on "almost" new dirt. We saw Sam, Joe, and Mike along the way, and Pat, Tink and Mark were all killing it on their single speeds.

And as for Jake heading to the races?

I guess we'll see what he thinks next week... Fontana Practice -- Presidents Day, Monday Feb. 18

Yup. That was pretty much the route. I need to go back and find the singletrack. I started riding there in 1986. All the trails were legal!

We were out there today. Did Northridge down Sycamore to 4 Corners. Ran into Bandman's group there. He (rightfully so) gave me flak for not sporting the single speed (sycamore is no fun on the fully rigid!!). Headed down Raptor, back up Telegraph & out South Ridge. I normally would take the SS out to CHSP, but the poor geary has looked so lonely lately in the garage.

24+ miles of pure fun. I know this is going to sound odd, but CHSP is actually easier on the SS. I was winded at the top of North Ridge on my full squish Kona today, but was hardly sweating when I did it two weeks ago on the SS.

All that green was gorgeous! Have never seen the park look so good. With the day off tomorrow, may have to take the SS back out there in the am.

Great RR. Loved the pics, even though they could not possibly do the scenery justice

Someone I know was talking with you about CHSP in the 80's this past Friday. They said it was better with no speed limits.

Default STR representin' at Chino Hills!

Good times indeed at Chino. Many STR folks in full effect at the very rare and green luscious foliage called CHSP. Had a small group with me but the main theme of the day was to take it easy and enjoy the outdoors with the wife. Made the rare sighting of Darin and Jake plus CPATCRASH at CHSP in the beggining.
Our journey started from the Carbon Canyon side up Southridge down Bovinian to 4 corners. Ran into Dan (KonaDupee) at 4 corners and chatted up for bit. From there we went to Raptor Ridge and back to 4 corners and down Telegraph. If anyone conquered the 3 B's on a single speed let me know as I shall bow at your presence! Anyway, enjoy the pics!

Not usually on my list of places to ride, but that green sure looks inviting. Hope we get some more rain to keep the green going.
