Default Blackstar to Corona and back

Neil had organized this ride up Blackstar down Eagle and into Corona then up Skyline and back down Blackstar Canyon. Unfortunately, Neil couldn't make it out at the last minute but we had a good ride despite his absence.

Shannon, Carl, Justin, Jose, Robert(?) (sorry my brain is still fried after that ride), and myself set out at 7 am. Justin brought his cyclocross bike and Jose on his SS 29er fortunately I brought the geared bike for a change but still struggled on the climbs. Usually I get photos from the front of the riders on the trails, but since I was behind everyone this time most of the pics were from the back or at rest stops.

Pretty uneventful climb up Blackstar, but when we started heading down Eagle we were told that it actually dumps into private property so there was supposedly a route to avoid it. Carl tried to find the alternate route while the rest of us continued right into this lady's property were she promptly gave us a scolding after seeing us. We eventually met up with Carl again after going through some incredible million dollar houses to find him and headed over to Skyline where we started are ascent back over to Blackstar.

We ended up finishing our ride around 2 pm and no one in the group had a computer so we don't have actual mileage, but it felt close to 50. Even though I had a tough time it always feels good pushing yourself and finishing a new ride. Carl, Justin and Shannon took it more as a training ride for CC and looked strong the entire day. Jose looked good on his SS too despite not being able to click into one of his broken pedals.

Thanks to Neil for organizing the ride and Carl for leading the pack. Good times once again.

Bright and early minus Neil

Off we go over Blackstar and into Corona

Bikes looking like they need a break too

More climbing to go

Finally at Skyline resting up before the climb back out

Carl found a trail that bypassed the private property we ended up on. The trail he found was a hike a bike and you have to lift your bike over a fence that borders the reservoir. It eventually led to a road into a private community. Still not sure if that was the right one or not.

Yep not a bad day for a ride. I do hope the rain it not over yet, it is nice to have some green...I hope it lasts.

I rode up Pipeline Road (Coal Canyon) to Sierra Peak...did not see any other bikers. That is not a easy climb.

I think Robert? in our group is actually Ben on the Turner.

Good ride today guys and gal. Skyline got a little hot but it was a good climb to end the day with. Pretty smooth, not too steep compared to the Main Divide.

As far as Eagle Rd goes. I took the singletrack that Donkey was posting about. It is pretty established and not very overgrown. It does take you to the tank. From there you can get to the road that leads to the neighborhood. Looking at photos by Chewi, I think I could have followed it left and it would drop you by Old Crown Road (dirt road).

Anyhow, missed you guys at Chronic Tacos afterwards. My Carne Asada/Pollo Asada Burrito was tasty.

Thanks to Neil for getting the ball rolling on this ride. Sorry you couldn't make it man. Next time dude.

Carl

I was out there today too. Beautiful day. It got warm quick once the switchbacks started. Blackstar was the best I have ever seen it (except for the washout).
I was not feeling it today (party last night) and turned around at the doppler ball.
On the way down I managed to go OTB twice. That's what I get for being social with the other riders who were climbing up.
Look away from the road to say hi, misjudge the lift needed to clear the rut and bam! I have a nice big bruise on my left cheek that is killing me right now.
I almost rode Coal - how did you deal with the freeway ramp closure Dean?

Nice RR! Kudos to you all.

Sorry Ben. I meant "last" as the last person listed in Mike's post.

Good ride! but mileage is under 35 based on my Garmin's reading last weekend...for 50 you'll have to descend/ascend the Carbon Canyon trail as you near the top of Skyline for an extra 2k of climbing and a few more miles of up/down.

I think 50mi "feeling" came from the long detour we took in Corona riding around the neighborhoods. Between gett'in lost and then deciding to go down to Ontario Ave. and then back up Manguliar that added some unwanted pavement miles. Bumm'in? Where were the kids and lemon aide stands when you need them.

10miles didn't really matter. It's the elevation gain that counted for me and it was good workout indeed!

Hmm, Carbon Canyon eh, might be a good way to go if to add that extra omph! on to the ride. I guess heading over to Sierra first before returning to Beek's would add an extra 1hr or more to the ride too.
