Another brutal Southern California morning.
Here in south OC the canyons can make the temps vary a bit. Rumor had it that warmer weather was coming, but stepping outside, the temp read 40F. A bit nippy. Temps varied from 40-43 all the way to the ride, about a 9 mile drive. As we climbed drove from the bottom of a canyon to the top, temps rose from 42 to 56 degrees. Wow. It was still darkish as he pull the bikes out of the van. Madre bundled up as she prefers to come to a boil before taking off layers while I braved it with only arm warmers and a windvest. Today was the inaugural ride on the Manitou (and her Eggbeaters that I'd swapped spindles in *risky). Turns out to be an incredible day. Going up down/up down in the canyons had a HUGE variant in temps, but the recent rains had made tacky dirt and green landscapes. Here's a sequence of the mid-dawn first descent... ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Although she reports the Manitou "clunks a little" when the platform knob is engaged at all she also said "on my Reba I could leave it unlocked sometimes, I can't do that on this and still climb...it bounces a lot. But I think that's probably what makes it feel really smooth going down." There you have it. Also, the Path built her up a sweet set of 355s on 240s. She's running about 25 psi and getting performance on par with a much bigger tire at 30psi. A brutal winter we're having...here you can see: some mountains, dstepper's house, water, some smog, and Catalina Island...oh, and one really light Niner One9! ![]() Oh yes, pigs flew today and I tested some 29er specific Eggbeater SLs. While they did their job, I don't understand why entrance/exit on those things is so vague? You gotta play roulette on whether or not you are in and whether or not you come out. The distinctive "CLICK" on my Times is a 30g confidence boost. ![]() From the park we did: Down Lynx Up RockIt Down RockIt Up Mathis Up to Top of the World Down Canyon Acres Over to LCWP Up Willow Over to El Morro Down Elevator Up Slow n Easy Over to Fenceline etc Down RedTailRidge/Rattlesnake Down Mach1 Up I Think I Can Over to LCWP Down Willow Up Stairsteps back in to Aliso You'd think that was alot of climbing. Nope...only an hour forty min of ups. Geesh...with all the closures..you gotta plan way ahead to get some real up time in.Oh yeah...got to say hi to cpatcrash as he was taken off for his ride on his sweet ti ride!

It was a great day out there today! However I was no where as ambitious as you two. My route consisted of. Up Choya, down Stairsteps then over to LCWP and up Willow, down erection, up BVD and back to Bomber Ridge to Laguna Ridge (T&A). Then back up Stairsteps, down rocket and out.
Great day! I'm hungry! Oh yea. Nice fork! |

*shudderI'm on medication for weight-weeniesm...just the notion of an 800+g tire on my bike, let alone my wife's makes me tear up. Nah, those are 2.1 Kenda Karmas, which are more like a 1.9. She's had a Exiwolf back there and had no issues. Are you talking about my wife on Lynx or the trail? Either way, you're right. ![]()

If Madre ends up not liking the fork I just might know someone who would. |

It did.
So it went on the back wheel of her training wheelset and was summarily decimated by a good bit of 30 mile commuting on her Air 9. And then it hit the trash can where all 800g tires belong. ![]() Colette! It's been too long! Will you be at Sea Otter? Isn't it ironic that we live only 50 mile apart, but see each other consistently when we travel 300 miles away...don'tcha think? No, I wish. I also wish there were two Sundays each week. Turns out that Sunday for me is like Monday for most other folks. ![]()
