Default RR Blackstar

Rode Blackstar to Beeks last night.

Well, I finally ran into Art tonight. Old Coot was cruising down Blackstar in a white truck with his wife (I assume). Same old song, "you're not supposed to be past the gate at night, it's a county ordinance."

We just Thanked him for the tip and kept riding. Course we were wondering how far he could get in that truck with the washout near the top.

Well, looks like Art was doing his trail maintenance again. He obviously took a shovel and started to hack away at the remaining of the fire road up at the washout. It's now down to a 2 ft long, 1 ft wide passable line that's right up against the hill.

Man, what douche.

I know it will be difficult to actually prove he further damaged the fireroad, but if it could be, I'd guess there are a number of federal violations he could be charged with.

Sucks to hear... as Impy said, it was pretty narrow last weekend, without someone tearing more out.

I'm sure it visibly looks different if more rain undermined it, as opposed to someone hacking at it.

It's quite obvious. When the dirt caved from the rain it creates an over hang. When you hack at it with a shovel, you get some nice semi-circle arc patterns in the dirt at the edge and there's no overhang.

I was up there last night too with my two buds. Art had the same words for us as well -- I just nodded and kept riding. To me the extra cut into the dirt looked consistent with more natural cave in, but who knows.

Was a nice night with warmer temps and lots of stars out.

Hey JC, I think we saw you guys on our way down.

Hmm, I thought dirt looked fresh like it just got turned where the cut in was.

In any event, like Ch4os said probably need to get some crews up there to either brace up the section or do a re-route. It won't be passable soon at this rate.

Yeah, if no official, proper repair is made soon they may need to get some lumber or such for a temp patch for VQ. While it seemed ridable I opted to walk it given how narrow and loose it was.

Warrior member Eron Boyer went out and had that section pretty much repaired on Monday afternoon...he even put in the reflector poles so to alert everyone of the danger ahead...he had it back to 5 feet across and had cut into the hillside to make it safe for everyone...so since we haven't had any rain since then (3 days ago) it looks like someone must have messed with it. We have decided not to go out there to repair it until hours before the VQ and CC go off and will leave a big strong mean guy there to watch and make sure nobody sabotages it again....worse case scenerio we will have to reroute up the hill a little bit there and hike it...as long as everyone is made to do it then it will be fair. It wouldn't surprise me if he messes with more of the trail between now and the event.

At last years Traverse someone had gone up the night before the event and pryed boulders out of the hillside and lined the tails with them and locked the gate at the top of Blackstar so the emergency vehicles we send up couldn't get up there....but fortuneately we send those emergency vehicles off about an hour before the start so they cleared the road for the riders...and we got the gate unlocked as soon as we could....

Yeah I saw saw of those reflector poles, and a red reflector cone. They found their way into the chasm.

I don't have words for this.

I will be camera ready on all rides on Blackstar.

I'll start documenting everything. Including that open trash pit Art calls home.

This is what it looked like this morning. The additional cut was very obviously done with a shovel. I think Gene took some closeups.

Do we really have to pitch in to get one of those motion sensitive 'critter' cam things to take photos of art in the act? Gawd, when does this guy stop and just live peacefully?

He will stop when we get out of "his" canyon, although he is usually greatful for the tax dollars when it is flooded or burning. We could always haul up a temporary bridge or construct a retaining wall and adequate drainage through it in time for the event. Now if we could just get Tim to quit using volunteers as pins in boulder bowling....

Good ride today. Nothing hard, just a nice mellow ride up to the golfball and back. Knees feel fine. It was nice to meet you Eric. Here are the pics I took. You can see where it was being dug into with a shovel.
