Default Great SART ride!

SART is a great trail. All singletrack and great scenery. We got to ride again today and it was great. The weather was a bit hotter than the last time we went and there were a lot more FLIES! These annoying buggers were with us the whole ride. Deer flies were espically annoying with their bite.

Anyways I met up with Oliver and Jake (delmonte) and we started our ride from behind the post office. It has changed a lot from all the logging. A lot more clearing here and there and also lots of tree crossing. It gets worst after the middle control road. So it was fun starting off our ride with a 5 mile singletrack downhill which was mostly rideable.

The name 2E03 came in handy when we got lost

All cleared up

Downhill

We crossed the middle control and continued on the 2E03.

One of the many hike-a-bike section

Downed trees

Being the Santa Ana River Trail we had to cross the water at many spots. And from the heavy rains from the winter the river was raging. Most of the time we walked across the river which was ankle to knee deep. There were some trees that were used to get across but some were too unstable.

We somehow managed to get lost on SART. At the end of the middle control road where SART makes a quick sharp left we missed that junction. So we headed upwards on a fireroad for about 3 miles. One thing that got us wondering if we were on the right trail was the "No trepassing" signs that were posted. We knew something was odd but we wernt sure. Luckly another rider was on the same trail and missed the turn too. He had a map and we were able to follow another fireroad back to Glass Rd. As it turns out this long way was actually better than taking the left. On our way back we did the portion that we missed and it was covered with trees. Lots of hike-a-bike here.

To Southfork!

We got to southfork campground at around noon and it was time for lunch. When your hungry anything taste good! It was also a nice place to fill up our camelbaks.

Where did everyone go!?

Crossable bridge

Knee deep water

We were on out way back to the cars. It was going to be another 14 miles back. Plus the oh-so fun Middle Control Rd climb. (makes me wonder why I didnt park down there) We finished about 3 hours later and we totaled about 36 miles. Now that was a great epic!

After 36 mi

So SART condition is good. There are some downed trees and deep water crossing. Also there are some parts of the singletrack where it is badly eroded and walking it is the best way to cross it. Also there were a lot of flies this trip too.

Im up for SART again! (maybe sept?)

Thanks for the RR. I have never seen that much water on that trail. I was not in So-Cal last week...did not realize that it rained that much.

I was sitting here thinking as I read that RR, "Man, flies, heat, it's like summer! Boy, if I didnt know better, I would think that this RR was old or something." Good eye, Hoser.

Good rr. We usually park at the bottom and then use that as a mid point. I can't stand finishing a ride with a grueling climb. 36 miles is about a full loop out there unless you take the downhill on the other side back into Mentone, then you're adding some mileage.

I think PHat Tire is looking at SART rides and the new forum has related posts at the bottom. It probably came up that way. It's a feature, not a bug.
