Dirty Boo and I wanted to get a good ride in today, but throughout the previous week there was no mention of riding, so our plans were...well, we had no plans actually. It was at last minute we decided to take the boys with us a fun easy ride. We stayed close to home and rode Calavera.
The day was beautiful, singletrack was nice and tacky, and we had some fun. Not too many pics, and none of the singletrack, but you'll see that Sloths can once in awhile fly (as ungracious, and ugly as it is).
By the end of the ride the boys were grinning from ear to ear, which in turn warmed my heart and kept me smiling the whole time.

Yeah Baja, we had a great time, took the boyz on some sweet descending singletrack, and they were stoked.
Well, its not really a trail worth driving 60 miles for when theres a lot of other great places to ride, but if you were in the area for any reason it would be worth hitting...does that make sense? But, if you ever want to come up just to check it out, let me know, I know this place inside and out, and can take you on some cool stuff.

The apprehension in my older sons eyes before take-off was priceless. I mean, as it is Dad isn't cool, so what would make him think Dad could do this without a trip to the ER? After I hit it the third time he relaxed...a little
He let me know that I'm still not cool though

It actually was a really fun ride and the weather was perfect. It was quite a site to see...Red Hot Sloth followed by mini sloth, followed by skinny-mini sloth! RHS got a chance to see skinny-mini sloth come down some singletrack and I think his heart skipped a few beats - so after a quick lesson the chant of the ride became: "Level Feet - Butt off the Seat"!

And yes...sloths really do fly

I must have blocked that incident from my consciousness (sp?).
I looked back and Skinny Mini Sloth was coming down this nice slice of singletrack, with his cranks vertical, and in the seat....at speed. i don't know how he stayed on the trail or the bike, but it scared the heck out of me. Thus the chant began and was repeated by the Mini Sloths for the rest of the descents on our ride.
"Butts off the seats and level feets....it was so awesome, the boys had showed great form from then on. Skinny Mini Sloth is quite a climber, and Mini Sloth has the descending prowess. They made Sloth very proud yesterday.

That place is just about my backyard. Normally ride there from the house. We will have to put together a grommet group ride sometime.

I agree. I talked about this place to people (you know who you are), and they don't know how to link the trails together to get a good 10-12 miler (not that the mini sloths could do that distance) in without hitting the same stuff repeatedly. When it gets good and dry I'm all for it. I think this is an area that needs some good attention as the Carlsbad Oaks North development and roads are going to be covering some of this area sooner than we think. On the plus side, Taffy and yourself have made great strides with CNLM, and they are one of the agencies covering this area, and I believe soon to be the only agency here (crossing fingers)
