Default Trail Condition Report - HJ/Trabuco Areas

Thought I'd post this for all of you planning on doing some VQ/CC Training rides this weekend.

As of January 31st

Trabuco Road - Creek is still flowing strong. 8-12" at the crossings.

Holy Jim Trail - Creek is flowing strong. There are bridges at all the crossings. There is some rutting in the trail with accumulated debris for the first five switchbacks. After that the trail is in good shape.

Main Divide - They are currently grading MD from Indian Truck Trail to the Trabuco Trailhead. They have currently graded from ITT to West Horsthief. The road is extremely torn up with long sections of deep sand and large dislodged rocks. The climb up Trabuco Peak was doable but only because the ground was frozen. The sections in the sun were miserable.

Trabuco Trail - The upper mile has the usual post-rain rutting and debris. Not bad for descending but it makes climbing a pain. All of the lower creek crossings are flowing. The steep rocky section before the double creek crossing is currently a waterfall. Not bad to go down, but probably a wet hike to go up.

HJ/UHJ is probably your best bet.

I probably won't ride MD again until after the next rain. Maybe it will pack down a little.

I'll be out somewhere tomorrow. Haven't decided what yet.
