Default RR: Proud Papa ride

I've been taking my sons riding with me for a while now and they continue to get stronger and more accomplished in their riding. Saturday I took my oldest son to Aliso for a little challenge - Climbing Cholla. He does great on fire roads so I thought he was ready for some steeper singletrack (I use the term singletrack lightly for this trail)

While at the bottom waiting for a couple riders to descend I gave him a couple tips and a pep talk. He was ready to go. Right up the first steep left hand switchback no problem. I was feeding him encouragement. Up and around the second right hander no problem. A few hoots and hollers from dad. He felt proud to pass a few out of shape adults huffing and puffing on the side of the trail. Some easy pedaling on the flat section to catch his breath and get ready for some real climbing. He motors right up the chute makes the right hander and get hung up on the rocks stalling. Dab #1 - No problem. He's doing great. A couple more dabs and chances to catch his breath and he's at the top. A lot of riders gave him an attaboy on the way up. That helped.

His 24" Trek is just about too small for him. I told him when he can clean Cholla from bottom to top I'll buy him a new FS 26" bike.

Tom at the top of Cholla:

I guess you could say I'm a proud papa.

Also had an FYM Dave sighting out there. good to see you again.

When your son cleans CHOLLA from bottom to top- I would be more than willing to discuss "his options" with him!!!

OFF TOPIC: STR Kid Rides... Newbie Rides.... Vaguely remember attending them LAST YEAR! Time to start planning...

....aaahhhh, a 26" bike is just the beginning. Pretty soon, he'll be pressing you on rides. Before you know it, he's cleaning hills a lot faster than you and he'll be hardly breathing. You'll probably still own him on the downhills - for a while.

Good job and enjoy the rides. My 15 y/o still likes to smoke his old man....

I've got a 9 year old that I may pass this down to but if he keeps growing faster than his older brother I may be buying two 26" bikes. In that case I'll let you know.

Thats good stuff Craig, and I know how proud you must feel.
Is there anything better than watching the little ones ride and enjoy it like we do?
I don't think so.

That really cool Craig, I really wish my kids would ride, it would be great to share moments like that with them. Keep this up and they'll be out at Fontana before you know it.

I was out riding this morning with FYM, I guess you ran into him when we went down Lynx and Fence Line and he took the fire road back to the car.
