RR: Dutch Flat Trail Work
Saturday morning we met in Keysville at 8.15 am. There were 5 Mt Bikers (4 from Kernville/Lake Isabella and 1 from Bakersfield) and a group of Moto riders (not sure how many because we worked from different ends...we started from the top and they started up from the bottom).
We shuttled up to Waggy Flats and rode up to the top of Dutch Flat. Riding with trail tools in your pack always makes things exciting.
We meet up with one moto rider and started working our way down the trail building waterbars and putting in a few reroutes but left all the rock gardens and tech sections in tack. Almost all the bars were hardened to handle uphill moto traffic. We also built up and smooth out some berms so the trail should be more fun than ever. We also did quite a bit of brushing.
All in all...we worked all but about 1/4 mile of the trail which will probably need to be rerouted.
We finished up and by the time we headed back up to get our shuttle car it was after 4pm. It was a long day but we got most of it done.
The trail work completed will insure Dutch flat to the list of classic southern sierra mtb rides of the future and will hopefully help keep it from being closed to wheeled travel.
