Default RR. Aliso to El Moro Tour

Beautiful day for a ride. Visibility was 50 miles.
Started out at MILF park up Cholla and down Stairsteps. Up over to Morro with a nice full loop including Fenceline, Rattlesnake, Mach One back up to Morro Ridge. Then back down to Laguna Canyon a little pavement to Canyon Acres where the real hurt began. Nothing like doing the Acres on mile 18.
I was shooting for NON stop to TOW, but did not happen. 2 Stops. Still not too bad considering last time I had about 5 breathers.
Back down to Linx and then we wrapped it up.
The plan was for a complete TOW to MEadows loop but we bonked after Acres.
Total ride was 24 miles with 4000 feet of ascending.
Thats half of what the Traverse will throw at us.
Damn.

Good job, thanks for the pics. Was out there with Shannon, Bruce and Lynn this evening...nice to have things green. Be nice to get some more rain next week and keep the green going.

Nice job doctor. Do that and the Seven Sisters ride a few times and you will see improvement. If you bonked you should try to focus on you energy consumption. My new thing is a fig newton every 10-20 minutes. Keep a steady flow of calories in the tank. Also don't forget about electrolytes.

Did you see us at the beginning of Mach One?
I saw a group of 3 guys there, that might of been you.

haha, I was just checking out your route on Geoladders thinking it would be right up my alley for some early morning VQ training (~20 miles, ~4000'). I don't have a GPS, so I like to use similar routes so I can still track my mileage and ascent, and your route is very similar to loops I do. I might change it slightly to go over on Bommer and down T&A though (instead of down Willow), and then up CA (less road, really getting nervous after EricFoltz and Caveman's stories!). The tricky part of making CA is that it seems to just keep getting steeper to me !

Thanks for the route!

Nice pics, that looks like a fun ride. I've always wanted to do this ride... I just dont know who to hook-up to El Morro from Stairsteps. Looking at the map, I think its obvious that you have to go through Laguna Coast but some of those trails are off limits to bikes.

So what's the connecting trail to El Morro?

Also those gates are often closed therefore I have never explored past them (when I'm at El Morro). Thanks in advance

You're right. You need to go through LCWP. Up Willow to Bommer. From there you have some choices.

Yeah, absolutely killer day out. I'm pretty sure I saw you guys at the bottom of CA, I was on a 6point, making a phone call. Hope you didn't take it as rude, I wanted to comment on the MkIII but I think it was your turn on the phone when I started up.

I did a pretty similar route, adding 5Oaks at the start and substituting T&A and Rock-It down, and I dropped all the way into the canyon after Rattlesnake and took Slow-n-Easy up. Cleaned everything except CA where i swerved and dabbed during a little mental vacation because of the nice long ride. Beats training on fireroads for the VQ for sure.

Nice Bike!

Tough little route you chose for yourself!
For some reason, I haven't ridden Aliso/El Moro in over a year (excluding Halloween Ride).
Time for me to visit an old friend. Thanks for the reminder!
