Default Bridge out on Fullerton Loop

For all the legions of Fullerton Loop fans...

If you ride through the 'jungle' area in back of the dam--this is right before the end of the Loop--there are several different options before you climb the final two hills and drop into the parking lot for the golf driving range...

If you take the fork that leads to the plank/board be forewarned: the plank isn't in its proper place!

I rode the Loop solo tonight and was riding toward the plank when I saw someone had dragged a log across the trail. My first thought was "OK, who's vandalizing the Loop now?" I took a closer look...no plank! Now I'd like to thank whoever put that log across the path, 'cause it saved my cranium.

I love that damn bridge, we ought to put up a sign "punishable by castration" to ward off vandals. It takes a village to make something great but only one idiot to screw it up.

Here was some discussion about the bridge and a possible explanation of its removal:

Sorry Lee, but I am replying before reading the link you were so kind to post. I think if this many people can get discuss this online, why cant we continue it with a wheel barrow, a bag of quickcrete and about $40 bucks worth of lumber. I've got the screw gun and two boxes of ammo so why not do something about it next sunday?

It would probably take more than a couple bags of Quickcrete. By the way, it's a decent hike to get anything down there.

I wonder if there's a way to cheat, and park somewhere in that housing area behind the hospital? Parking up at the hospital and hiking down with a bag of quickcrete would be nearly suicidal.

anyone got a cargo trailer for their bike? throw a bag of concrete in and roll on down from the road by the golf course. could make things more fun with the extra 60 or 80 lbs of stuff behind you

I know of at least one STR member who owns a BOB trailer.

Paging Andy aka Rut...

Before anyone buys lumber or tries to lug a 90-.lb bag of concrete: do we know whether or not any sort of "fix" for this bridge will be left alone by the powers that be? I'm certain we could build and install something that would be sturdy, safe, and firmy anchored in place, but it would be a shame to have it torn out shortly thereafter.

Building a bridge would be a perfect community service activity for the guy that was caught digging ditches on the trail. We already know that he is good with hand tools.

A slightly better idea: The old bridge was only 6 or 7 feet long. If we hold his arms straight up and plasticize him so he doesn't rot, he would probably span the entire distance.
