Lee started at beginner last year, and now he's vet pro. I'm sure he'll only get better as the season progresses. Winston got a great time. Justin is sandbagging now. And Andy and Cid are both xc newbies who did really well on non-dh bikes! Tani killed it after coming back from a horrible injury; he still can't make a fist, but he podiumed! And Carla you are truly amazing for jumping right back into racing after that broken back. I'm sure as your confidence grows you'll have a lot more fun out there - hang in there! You are all inspiration to me.

And thanks Keith for all your support and the pics. :-)
What about 'lil old me? I would have given you Pro gals a run for your money if I hadn't gotten blown over after the rock jump. Having to run up the saddle cost me any shot at the podium but "that's racing".

You could bump down to the "loser" class and beat me I had it worse... At least Joy did pretty well.

great job everybody! I'll definitely try to snake my way out of work to make one of these sometimes. Looks like a blast.. and the times are still impressive considering the wind!

You can't compare your performance during a windstorm with a normal race. It was a crapshoot at best. That's why I don't like gambling!! Chalk it up to experience!!!

Allison - you do realize Joy put a little ring on her bike. I think that really helped her "haul" in the wind, especially on the wall.

Either way, she did well. In addition to passing me she kicked my butt on the wall!

Allison - As far as I'm concerned anyone that puts themselves out on a race course gets my respect! Especially the ladies!

Great job! and thanks for making racing look fun!

Default Saturday = Perfect / Sunday = Afghanistan

Damn, Sunday was absolutely brutal. The wind was nothing short of miserable and on two wheels I would say demoralizing.

In Sunday practice the rock pile in the saddle was a magnet for sketchiness and carnage. I saw equal numbers of both for dozens of riders within a very short period of time. My statistics engine calculated roughly a 50/50 chance for success.

The person with the broken leg didn't factor into that calculation, but it wasn't looking good for my recovering collar bone.

I crashed on that damn pile during my race run. I got up quick and ran my bike back into action. Down the hill I realized I had lost shifting and then flatted just before the wall. All in all, a fantastic way to start the season: second to last. Nice work!!!

The Team Houseman/Bike Co. came together nicely--a bit rag tag to start, but the riders were stoked and everyone had fun.

A lot of peope piss and moan about the quality of the track, the conditions, etc., but the bottom line is that it's good times all the way around. I think the better part of the fun is seeing everyone doing their thing--riding, taking pictures, chillin', yakity-yakin' and so forth. Everyone is flossin' their new gear from Christmas and the season is under way. Race 1 is like a giant starting gun for the whole season.

GO!!!!!!!!!

Yup - Keith told me about that gust you got. The person who wins the battle is not usually the person to win the war. That's why it's a series - to eliminate the fudge factor.

Nancy, you are totally a heroine of mine ... from the first time I saw you at Southridge on that podium and wondered, "who's that?" If I could corner as fast as you, I'd be celebrating for sure.

Christina is a great rider and an even better person. I had the pleasure of being on SBF with her and her husband Barry.
