Thanks, Jose. Once I reached the peak, I continued on for roughly another 5 miles (I thought I was heading West?). There was still no end in sight, so I turned around. At the end of the ride, my computer showed I had ridden over 21 miles, with nearly 4,900 feet in elevation gained. Do you know how many miles it is from the West (Or is it South, or maybe Southwest? Otay Mesa?) to the communications towers?

Wow! I think you crossed the border!!!

I think you went east, I remember seen the road goes along a ridge up and down to the east.
The south side road is longer but not as steep as the one we did.

Hey Chips,

If you send me the track file from your GPS I'll plot it for you like above and send you the map back. Then you'll know where you went.

Jose,

I'll give you a call tomorrow. Not sure if I can make it yet but I'll see once I get back from Virginia.

If you were go the other way (basically a left whn you go to the top) you would have ended up on 94 outside of Dezulra, all downhill!!!

i am thinking of going up from the campground and down that direction, then turn around and do it all over again. Should be one hell of a death march!

I may do this early Saturday morning. My hall pass ends at noon, so I need to ride something close.

Thanks for the offer MT ID, but I don't have a GPS, just a computer that has an altimeter function. Sometimes I am a bit behind the times when it comes to technology. Baja and I have been communicating via PM, and I am pretty sure I was heading to Otay.

No problem, we'll just have to ride it again some time.

emfc,

Baja and I are thinking about a Jamul to Otay and back ride soon. I have not done the entire route yet, but I am guessing it would be about 30 miles round trip, and 8,000 feet of climbing. Fortutanely, it's all rideable fireroad.

Do you have any idea on the distance and climbing for the trek from Jamul to Dulzura and back?

Another long ride could be starting from Lower Otay Lake by the fishing dock, ride the single track around the lake and then along Otay Lake Road to the Rv park, climb the fire road to the top, down the south side to Otay Mesa, then down behind the Otay dam and up the hill back to the car, I'm sure it has being done.

Not sure, I may just go out there tomorrow and drive it to find out. More to follow.

Not sure you want to do that as it is rough road. Bounces you all over the place in a vehicle.

I did just a portion of our climb in my Suburban last summer and it was rough.

It wasn't to bad a few weeks ago in my Xterra. I was hoping I could use the 4X4 but never had to. The wife was freaked out the entire time.

Looks like I am going to ride the mtn in the morning if anyone is interested. Never made it in the X today.
